Another person who presumes everyone arrested is guilty. I guess you support the detention of the J6 people too.

Shreveport may be "liberal" but Caddo Parish is not and to be clear what you mean by liberal is majority black. You should jus go ahead and say that.

We incarcerate more people than anywhere else on the planet. But sure.

Nah, I just recognize high bail is given to criminals with long records.

You can play the "this could happen to you!" card all you want but I'm nearly 40 with a clean record. I'm not getting this sort of treatment if for some odd situation arises and I'm charged with a crime.

To all the 22 year olds who have 20+ arrests that this is happening to, I'm sorry if *this* time you're really innocent, but I have bigger problems to cry over.

But I don't have a prog savior complex like you do, so that's probably why I DGAF about 90% of the shite you try and stir up.

The most prosperous country can afford the most jails/prisons.

Yet another "duh" fact that is lost to 4cubbies.

Bail/bond reform is necessary, especially for non-violent crimes for defendants without history (if they don't miss court).

But when you have guys with long histories and violent crimes, it gets tough. Also that dramatically raises the likelihood of a history of missing court.

There are some proactive steps that have a proven track record of decreasing missed court dates, like text messaging reporting systems. These are really cheap, too. Being against cheap, proactive steps like that is silly.

Clearly, committing more crimes while on bond is an issue. The only system you can use with that is revoking the bond.

Lots of "tough on crime" types forget bond is just to ensure appearance at court. That and new criminal activity should be the primary variables of analysis.

You're not really trying to compare the conditions and punishment in an 18th century prison to a 21st prison, are you?

If anything, this proves bail is unnecessary. Bail is there to ensure the accused will show up for court. If someone has a prior conviction, doesn’t it prove they have a history of appearing in court?

This is how a place like Oakland happens.

Not if that conviction followed an arrest warrant for missing a court date.

Conviction =/= the convicted willingly showed up to court.

Moreover, the more convictions you accumulate, the longer your future prison stays will be. As those future sentences get longer and longer, you have more reason to flee.

Over 150 people murdered in Harris county by felons out in bond in 2021. It was worse last year.

Have you ever been around a jail setting? Ever interacted with inmates? You remind me of my Yale educated CJ professor. He taught classes on prisons and incarceration yet has never seen the inside of a jail.

Yes. Why do you think I care about this issue?

Cashless bail incentives more crime. It’s a fact. You can look around the country and see the results. I don’t have to have a study to show me what my own eyes can see. Every area of the country that has put cashless bail into practice has seen a rise in crime.

Diversion programs are money grabs for the most part. Ankle monitoring is flawed to the degree that several victims in La have been murdered by criminals wearing devices designed to protect said victim.

People are tired of the misplaced sympathy for criminals. People can see with their own eyes the soft on crime policies have failed the law abiding citizens of this country.

Do you disagree with the Constitution’s guarantee that all accused are innocent until proven guilty? It sounds like you’re claiming every person arrested is guilty.

There are certainly people arrested who are innocent.

But the majority are found guilty in court.

Certainly most people should be given the right to post bail.

If you’re stupid enough to keep getting arrested while on bail for other charges, maybe it’s just time to let you cool your heels in jail awaiting trial(s)

Bail Bond lobby/GOB network? For the most part bail is a stupid, and highly punitive mechanism. If the person doesn't show up for trial, by all means seize assets at a bail equivalency. But the business of demanding prepayment is BS.

What purpose does bail serve in your mind? It exists to ensure the accused appears in court.

We aren’t soft on crime in this country. Obviously putting record numbers of citizens in cages doesn’t actually result in a safer society. It’s time to try alternatives.
