re: What was health insurance like pre Obama care?
For many, more expensive with less coverage for pre-existing conditions

Health j durable premiums
Have been increasing for decades

LINK

There are a lot of issues with ObamaCare.

It essentially tried to use a hammer to fix a screw.

Insurance as a means of paying for healthcare is dumb.

It’s always fun to watch people post who have no idea what they’re talking about.

re: What was health insurance like pre Obama care?
It was cheaper for a better plan. You had lot more options, which helped the pricing. If you had a lapse in coverage, you had to wait 6 months to have pre-existing covered under your new insurance.

One of the driving forces that caused insurance premiums to go up, and also forced out many smaller companies, was the way the insurance companies had to pay for medical coverage. Pre-ACA, companies were able to negotiate much cheaper prices with the medical providers; there by, passing on the savings to the consumers. Once ACA came out, they had to pay higher rates to medical providers; therefore, increasing our premiums and forcing smaller companies out.

re: What was health insurance like pre Obama care?
i posted the saga on here as it happened IRL

basically i was at about 75/mo before it passed, then it "jumped" to like 125 /mo with a 2500 deductible

when it was IMPLEMENTED, it jumped to something like 300 or 400/ mo with a 5k+ deductible (i forget the exact numbers)

now it's jumping from about 575 to 650/mo with a 6500 deductible

yes, inflation and my age would mean that 75/mo would never have kept going, but there is NO WAY it would go up almost 10x in 10 years

He took a bad health insurance program and made it worse. It's not the first time a government program made something worse though

Reading other’s posts they’re blaming Obama care for what is essentially a consistently increase in costs over time.

You didn't have to have it.

Insurance companies didn't have to cover you.

It generally cost less for most people.

Fewer people had insurance; the ones who did were more fully covered.

Basically it was a Robin Hood type plan... took some away from middle/upper class and gave it to the lower class.

Youre no5 gonna get an honest answer from these folks—-but in short health insurance was shitty. Obama wanted to fix it—-wasn’t very successful so it’s still shitty.

I have a pre existing issue but have a job and my insurance was 10 times better before Obamacare. I have thought about canceling my insurance and saving 165 a week.

Ugh. Follow the trends. Just don’t do premiums. Include Max OOP and deductibles.
You people always ignore those.

Health insurance cost had been trending up for well over a decade. I mean that was the entire reason so much focus was on Health insurance in the first place.

Obama and Mitt wanted to fix it

Neither does the doctor. We can do it just like contractors. You come in, we tell you what we think you need and give you a price. You can shop it around, and then decide. Of course after the initial evaluation and any diagnostics, we will have to reassess and give you a bid for the next round. Sounds good to me. Maybe you frickers will realize how much extra y'all get out of one visit.

BS. I had a great plan. I think I paid 27 a paycheck, so $54 a month. I had $20 co-pays for doctors visits. If I went to an urgent care, I think I paid $50. The first year of Obama Care, my premium nearly doubled. Cheap co-pays went out the window and the best I get is 20% co-pay. Visits always seem to be ~$80-$100 now instead of the flat $20. Without a doubt it wasn't gradual. There was a noticeable turning point. Admittedly since then, I've added family which on it's own significantly the monthly cost with my company, so I'm not sure what the affect over the years has been. But I was single when OC came out and it was noticeable.
