I could go on for hours on the HVAC industry and the problems it, basically you are going to pay 1500-2000 a year for a HVAC system that works ok. Take your intial cost the.n add all
Maintenance etc and divide by the HVACs 5 to 6 year life span.

The coils are pos and basically disposable, absolutely in part to the required energy efficiency requirements and partly because they decided to make complying with this regulations in as cheap and shitty a way as possible

High time Trump takes a massive shite on these bullshite laws that only harm ordinary citizens.

Trump signed into law the AIM Act in 2020 that required the phase down of 410a. It was pushed by the refrigerant and HVAC industry mainly under the guise of "creating jobs" and "keeping up with global technology".

So Trump would have to un-shite the the big shite he didn't veto 5 years ago.

Not sure why the downvotes to this. The gas manufacturers patents are timing out so they get the EPA to ban the gas and then they start a new patent with a different gas.

Bingo. Follow the lobbyist money. All of the green shite being forced on us is backed by big under the table bribes. Al Gore started it. Carbon credits. LOL

It's not half the price. The labor is half the price. They aren't giving you half price off of labor because they're installing 410. The units are about 20% more. We're talking maybe $2-$3k more for the newer type. If you're installing yourself maybe you can save.

New refrigerant changes are not comparable with older equipment. New refrigerant has a minor flammability rating (2L) and UL (Underwriters Labatory)flame rating was never tested on the old equipment so you can’t certify the old equipment for the new refrigerant

Also new refrigerant is less efficient but is more “green”

I was quoted 13 grand for complete unit, coil work etc for 454b, I paid 6500 for brand new 410 outside unit only, that’s half price and what I’m basing my post on

The biggest chemical manufacturers will complain and whine but in reality they love the ""rules". The regulations basically make the cost of entry impossible for smaller companies..

Well, they have one of their own lobbyists in control of the EPA's chemical division now. They also have a push to disband IRIS, which is the only independent chemical research entity in our entire government.

Trump 2.0 has leaned heavily into the lobbyist ranks up and down the EPA's chemical management department. I will let you, and others, decided for yourself if that is a good or bad thing.

I paid $17k. Had quotes up to $25k. My compressor was failing. I could have replaced it but now I would have been replacing it on a unit with a 15 year old evaporator coil which was likely to fail in the next few years .

You'd think there'd be a nice/quickly to be large company someone with the right background could develop - manufacturing/sourcing replacement components for HVAC units being aged out.

and how they are being phased out in favor of more energy efficient 454b units.

454b is slightly flammable, so these new units will have sensors to detect a leak.

When a leak is detected, the unit will completely shut down and not run until the leak is fixed.

I’m pretty sure that has already happened, but it’s too late the factory’s already swapped over and too expensive to swap back. What done is done. It will happen again as soon as the pattens for 454 and other new freon run out. The pattens are the real driving factor.
