This is why, when I joined the military, I was not gonna join the ranks of seamen. God bless them and all that but frick staying out at sea for extended periods of time. I did spend some time working in the Gulf during my 20's, but we had it good. Being out at sea interests me so much, I have never even considered a cruise. I never had the urge to look at water all day...unless there was a fishing rod in my hands.

Just another “wrong place wrong time” moment. This was pretty cringe though.

I’m as critical as anybody of Trump’s adventurism in Iran, but “Not nearly long enough” was not a reply to a question about this specific situation. He was asked about deployments IN GENERAL, and that’s a different question than one carrier on an extended cruise.

I still think the reply is asinine to the question that WAS asked, but I’ll point out clickbait outrage porn regardless of “side”.

Frankly, I’m embarrassed and ashamed of the US Navy in this instance. Trump is right. That crew was being a bunch of pussies.

Why do you hate our troops so much?

If you don’t love America, then you can GTFO…

Sailors are already complaining about ship conditions, food conditions, general overwork as well as lacking any core idea of what it is they are there to accomplish or what they've actually accomplished.

The only bright side I've seen is military personnel literally writing, mockingly, stuff like "For Israel" on the aircraft. At least the Noticing rages on.

He's losing the midterms at this point. He makes stupid comments and is doing nothing to end the war or help the prices of everything back home.

I voted for him, but he's hurting republicans now, and if they lose, this country's issues might not be fixable.

I don't see where Trump said that in the article

it was a record, we have friends whose son was on that ship for 9 months

266 days in combat, is nuts

overall the 5200 sailors are good spirits but most beyond ready for land and to be home! to come home

I seriously doubt that’s even close to a record.

I’m sure the folks serving on a Submarine right now would love to hear about how bad life is aboard an aircraft carrier.

That ship is designed to stay at see longer, so I guess long deployments could and should happen.

No it isn’t and no they shouldn’t.

It not having to be refueled but once in its life does not mean it’s intended to stay at sea indefinitely, even if it theoretically could.

Basically all of its systems, the aircraft, and its crew, need pretty intense maintenance, and rest, etc after 240 straight days at sea in a war zone.

None of our subs go 240 days without a port call or a refit period. They’d come in and swap crews at the very least

How many days do they go without seeing the sun?

Then it’s an even more stupid comment. Because all of our ships are extended too long because the Navy and our shipyards are so arse that less than a third of our ships are ever available at any given time.

No, deployments should not be longer
