It isn't a differentiator for me either, but they WERE different after the first 2-3 months.
Desantis was better at it. That's ok to say.
However, Trump was running a Nation not a State, and did not have the power to act as freely as Desantis did. That's also ok to say. Context is fine.

This is politics. It is a dirty business full of lies, half truths, and distortions.
This is true of every election Republican or Democrat, it's just the world as it is.
Ron DeSantis made a terrible political decision to take on Donald Trump. It's likely he will never be president because of it.
If he runs aggressively against Trump he's costing himself votes. If he does not respond to Trump's attacks obviously he's going to get crushed.
I'm not discussing the merits of the issues involved in the campaign I'm only trying to explain it to you in political terms.
The Ron DeSantis campaign is a perfect example of a no-win situation.
Even the never Trump people recognize this but they really don't care if Desantis is ever President they only want to stop Trump.

Neither side should be claiming the high road of perfection when it came to the Covid debacle.
Gov D wasn’t flawless but there were a hell of a lot of states that handled it worse than Florida.
GOB may not have been a Gov to make decisions for any particular state but he carried the bully pulpit of the presidency and if he wants to go there then plenty of footage exists with him standing right alongside Dr.Death Fauci while that gnome rambled on.
Meanwhile the very worst of the worst occupies the White House at this moment and their party had governors that went downright draconian in their states. THAT should be where the focus is.

Trump could claim that DeSantis was a tranny and about half of this board would believe it.
Remember, the majority of this board believe Sidney Powell had "biblical" evidence which would overturn the election and that Lin Wood was right when he said that Pence would be arrested and John Roberts preyed on little boys.
