Patriot Act.

Incorrect. The Privacy Act of 1974 permits federal usage of personal data for any law enforcement purpose, which, as you probably know, is tens of thousands of pages of laws passed by congress every year, with constitutionally questionable interpretations that spawn out of it. Some of the recent USSC rulings have seemed to ignore that, but that was a key point of a couple of privacy exams I took.

Everyone that signs up for FB, IG, X, Amazon, and any other platform, that they use for "free" for benefits, is paying through tracking. Why do you think there isn't an option to pay FaceBook $10 a month to not track you? Because your tracking tendencies are worth more than that.

I posit that the bigger issue (and this may get dorky) is that people don't realize that when they connect to store/mall wifi, they are accepting terms that permit tracking of their movement, where they linger, etc. That's done with BT and with Wifi. Turn on VPN, they still have your IED, and know who you are. But nobody cares.

Agree. They are not going away. Cannot believe Trump is letting it happen on his watch. We will all remember this.
The problem though is we have to keep up with the other countries that may even be farther ahead already in regards to these data centers

Ai, Ring doorbell, traffic cams, redlight cams, OnStar, it never stops. The best part is some of these you pay a subscription, lol. With OnStar, you "get it for free the first 3 years" like nobody will realize it's factored into the MSRP.

The goal of the modern social engineer is not to create better people, but to create a better "society."

The distinction is that with enough supervision and enough algorithms in place we can stop crime before it happens. (think: Minority Report.)

The modern social planner is all in on delivering less and charging more. It's easy to deliver when people's expectations are sufficiently lowered. This is the goal of centralization. When all your needs are met and your wants are irrelevant.

The melt over data centers is real.

I am not an expert in this area.

However, if we can now put vast amounts of data into a tiny microchip, what else is the need for these huge data centers?

There is an NSA data center in Utah that was supposed to be able to collect and follow every electric communication and transaction in America.

I am truly curious as I do not understand what all of these other ones are for?

There are a few layers you have to get through to get to data centers in this equation.

I agree with the problem the surveillance state poses, but you have republicans pushing for FISA renewal. The ship has sailed so far you can't even see it at this point. It is probably one of my biggest issues with his presidency. It needs to end but there are few people in congress actually fighting it.

Unfortunately there isn't much he can do about it

We've been sold out. Authoritarianism is coming. It might be a bipolar switch between left and right but at some point it doesn't matter.

If the same folks forecasting this so called surveillance capitalism are also running Hollywood and planning out their movie release schedule, then why worry?

What is this, 2010?

Why are people even pretending to care about this now? The point of no return on the surveillance state was a long time ago.

....By the chinese. Neville Roy Singham, a US born tech billionaire living in china, is spending millions on a network of NGOs to spread negative information on US AI to help chini win the race.

And many clowns are swallowing this hook line and sinker. Their time would be better spent learning Mandarin....they are gonna need it
