Mississippi and other deep south states are playing with a good handicap. We need to continue seeing them climb up the normal NAEP rankings instead of just the handicapped "demographically adjusted" rankings.

Mississippi is 1 on the demo adjusted rankings and 26 in the non adjusted list. Massachusetts is 1 in the non adjusted list and 3 in the demo adjusted list.

The percentage of kids who can’t learn is much smaller than your teacher’s union would have you believe.

The science of reading is an amazing thing.

The classical foundations of education still prevail.

Grammar -> Logic -> Rhetoric

Everything else is communist gobbledegook.

maybe if the rest of the country would stop banging their kids, and teach them instead, they can catch up to mississippi.

They are straight up 20th with no adjustments.

If you adjust for demographics (make every state the same percent M/F, B/W etc.), they are 2nd

Want to do your own analysis, here's the data: LINK

Idaho, when adjusted for race demographics, is now leading the nation for basketball recruits.

I kid...

Agree. Sure he’s not perfect but having to carry the delta and that massive albatross across the finish line is a Herculean effort for every metric.

His response to COVID as well won me over

Yep. Louisiana, Florida and Alabama have copied Mississippi. And believe it or not Michigan is implementing it as well.

This is how a republic is intended to work and why the DOE should be shut down.

Nationwide program = everyone fricked, no examples to look for.

Statewide program = 50 states looking for the best possible solution. When California fricks up, only California deals with it. And when they decide to pull their heads out of their asses, they will have 49 other programs to look at in order to copy and improve.

Almost all domestic issues should be handled this way for the same reason.

The DOE has been shuttered and the FBI building torn down.

I'm not going to shite on it, because they obviously are showing some major improvements. But they are tooting their horn a little too loudly and making some proclamations that are not true. This is demographically adjusted, which is a completely bullshite way to judge reading and math abilities. You can either do math and read or you cannot. You will notice throughout the article they are sly in their descriptors and put in caveats like "when compared to their peer group" etc.

Thanks for this. For some reason I couldn’t find the article in the tweet linked.

I do find it interesting that many people are ok with adjusting for demographics in this instance but not for other things.

And Louisiana is #4 right above #5 Texas! Who would have thought?! I think Louisiana tried what Mississippi did or some version of it, so it must be working. Hard to believe, though.

Wait. Are these demographic-adjusted scores or absolute scores?

Best or most improved? What I read earlier said they ranked first in the most improved category.

I don’t understand, and did not do my homework on, “adjusted for demographics”. What does that mean ?
