The liberal north east is in shock.

The Mississippi turnaround in education has been crazy to see.
What are the opinions on Tate Reeves? From the outside seems like he's done a good job as governor.

He has been quietly excellent. Education, high tech jobs, return of manufacturing, billions in investment. He'll never get the national credit he deserves and he gets the Rand Paul treatment because he looks funny.
We're poised to replace him with the female attorney general next year and it will be a disaster. The GOP bull pen is bare.
Something to watch is a billionaire business man from Hattiesburg is running for governor. We could have our own little Magnolia state Trump moment. He's gaining some momentum.

This actually goes back to the previous governor. He decided every child would be able to read and count, implemented proven teaching methods, and put the necessary money into the classroom/actual instruction.

Columbia actually. Duff is much more disciplined than Trump. ;-)

The whole north east bubble would be shocked if they learned any of us southerners knew how to read. That's why people who live in bubbles have no grasp of the real world and vote like the good sheep and do what they are told.

What about the rumor of abolishing the State Income Tax?

Not sure if that applied to all state schools, or for how long, but seems like a good plan to recruit teachers to the state.

And Louisiana is #4 right above #5 Texas! Who would have thought?! I think Louisiana tried what Mississippi did or some version of it, so it must be working. Hard to believe, though.

It was extended to Ole Miss and USM as well. Its a really good scholarship offer. Tution, room, and board for four years for a five year commitment at any Mississippi public school.

Yep. Louisiana, Florida and Alabama have copied Mississippi. And believe it or not Michigan is implementing it as well.

You're right about the bullpen being bare.
But the Hat is gonna beat the brains out of Finch.

Not a rumor.
It passed, although it was a phase out rather than a complete elimination.
Drops from 5% max to 3% max by 2030, and if revenue projections are hit, completely gone by 2032.

I like the hat. I don't like all the Baptist women voting for Fitch. I'm worried, but hopefully I am wrong. I do know this, the Mississippi media HATE the hat. They will be all in for Fitch, who is a Noem/Haley type. Probably not as Republican as she claims to be, which is the best the liberals can hope for. The Baptist women/Mahjong crowd/liberals is a weird coalition for a MS governor candidate, but that's what we have.

I was friends with guys from Millsaps College about 60 years ago. It was an excellent school. But since Jackson, Miss. has gone to hell I was wondering what happened to the school. Is Millsaps suffering from the location?

Our education system here is OK is shite (saying that as an educator). We need to model what they did moving forward to get out of being dead last in education nationally.

Millsaps suffered from a bad female president a few years ago that tried to turn it into the LGBT mecca of the South. During her term, she hired some basket case professors and gave them tenure, all of their marketing materials had LGBT influence, and she gutted the Greek system.
The last President did a decent job but was hijacked by some of the woke professors left over. There was an incident where a group of students vandalized the Christian Center with "F Trump" and such. He left for Sewanee and they hired a Georgia Tech guy. I've heard he is awesome but they are down to.around 600 students. State and Ole Miss have both started excellent Honors Colleges that are attracting the type of students that used to go to Millsaps.
Its not so much Jackson as Millsaps made some really bad decisions and they are suffering from them.

They will never acknowledge the south as being equals.
