Seriously, though. This board is like 70% boomers.

I know a lot of Boomers and the vast majority don't condone any of this shite you're shrieking about. You seriously need to have it out with your Boomer parents and grandparents and bury the hatchet......move on.

It's fascinating to me to watch these failures at life blame old people for their lack of ability or ethic
It is amazing that there are so many young people who make poor choices..
The formula for success hasn't changed since I have been alive and there are certainly more opportunities to work for companies that will help pay for your education.
Don't go into debt, choose a path that will pay in the future and work hard. it will pay off.
Also, showing up to work is half the battle.
Anybody who disputes this is just making excuses. I've lived it and I saw it daily as a PM with a bunch of highly young people who had a great "Boomer" and "GenX" mentors as their leads.

Markey has been in DC longer than most of us have been on earth.

I am a 36 year old with a PhD in Philosophy. I am $450k in debt and currently working two minimum wage jobs in order to stay alive. I work alongside 18 year olds and whenever they ask about my background I just tell them I've been in prison for a long time, which is less embarrassing than admitting the truth. I am probably the most well-informed Husserl scholar on the North American continent, perhaps in the world. My 1,500 page biography of his life has been rejected several dozen times. No college will take me on since they don't think Husserl is relevant, and that other applicants are therefore pushed to the head of the line. I have had 6 Husserl-related papers published in different journals and philosophical quarterlies, but have earned no money or recognition for having done so. I just moved to Abbeville, Louisiana since there is a job opening at the university in Lafayette and I decided to go all out in order to get it. But I've just found out that my application was rejected and now I'm stuck working at a Wendy's three shifts a week and a Barnes & Noble the rest of the time. I have no wife, no children, and at this point no friends I'm willing to talk to due to the shameful nature of my existence.

quote:It is as ""indisputable"" as the bourgeoisie being the root of all evil (Marx), or Jews being the root of all evil (Hitler). Your supposition is based on identical Critical Theory laden oppressor-oppressed pretexts.
Boomers' love of immigration, feminism, substance abuse, and gay sex did irreversible damage to the soul of this nation. This is indisputable.
E.g.,
Immigration - George H W Bush (not a Boomer)
Feminism - Suffragettes (not Boomers), Gloria Steinem (not a Boomer)
Substance abuse - Timothy Leary/early R&R (not Boomers)
Gay sex - Greeks/Romans (not Boomers), 19th century terminology (not Boomer)
But here's a hint as to how not to look ridiculous in these "Boomer" threads. Aside from the inherent stupidity of stereotypes being applied to individuals, understand that stereotypically lumping an 18-yr "generation together," when it contains diametrically opposite social components like hippies and yuppies, immediately spotlights you as intellectually lazy ... at best.

well that money is never getting paid back, what kind of job did you think you would get with a phd in philosophy? being a philosophizer? i blame your parents they should have never let you pursue that path. they really let you down boy.
however in the tradition of phenomenology i'm going to suspend what i know to be he reality of your situation (you're phucked) and focus on the analysis of your experience.
by the way, i have to say that a wendy's jr. bacon cheese burger is the best bank for the buck burger out there!

Between boomers and white ladies, we’ve ruined just about every opportunity everyone has ever had.
The brown people from third world countries are ruining whatever remaining opportunities slipped through the cracks.
Woe is the average American white man born after 1965. You’ll never find a more pitiful victim.

quote:You do little but troll here, so I have no clue as to how much of this, if anything, is serious. If it's truly your situation though, damn! that's hard. It's water under the bridge, but going $450K in debt for a Philosophy PhD is a huge risk, regardless of the area of concentration. Obviously something you knew going in

That said, here are a couple of thoughts from a random person on a free message board:
1) A 1500 page nonfiction treatise would be a hard sell on any topic.
2) Break your book down to 500 pages. Might seem a hard task as everything you put into the 1500 pages has importance. If so, use AI to aid you. But a 500-pg manuscript will drastically change the paradigm of your market.
3) If you move to a refresh, consider alternate reframing of the biography into a societal analysis focused on interesting elements in contemporary society that framed Husserl's life, with philosophy, and phenomenolism as a relational tie. Presumably, the external theme would involve some form of shifting moral and intellectual foundations of European make up in the 1900's and post-WWI era concomitant to Husserl's observations.
4) Outside the box, depending on your skills and interests, you could even apply your research to a Michener-style fictional documentary ... Husserl-meets-"Cabaret".
4) Perhaps the best opportunity. There is certainly a case to be made tying Husserl's phenomenology of the early-mid 20th century to the rise of AI. AI sells. Making that tie in a comparative way with the 1930's would justify tossing in a ton of your biographical stuff, as well as applying your own knowledge toward a highly relevant contemporary topic.

The problem is you, and other people who think like you, are incapable of understanding the damage is not done by a generation. The damage is done by an ideology.

quote:That is because critical theory has nothing to do with "understanding."
The problem is you, and other people who think like you, are incapable of understanding
In fact, critical theorists abhor actual understanding.
They are instead dependent upon mindless rote in assignment of oppressor categorization. That is, unfortunately, what we see evidenced in this thread by GreatLakes, and the others. There is no analytical thought. There is no logic or reason. There is only mindless application of an oppressor philosophy.
