Critical Theory and the Scientific Method are actually the competing methodologies.

How?

quote:

My contention with critical theory is it initially fixates on a target, the supposed system beneficiary. It then concludes that any identified beneficiaries achieve such status via oppression of others who concurrently suffer within those systems. From that point, it begins a fact search to support the conclusion, while attacking efforts to question the conclusion.
Can you provide an example?

Were there actually Greeks?
Were there actually Indians?
No. Not really. They're both blanket terms that do not reflect the very different languages and cultures of people who are all being grouped together.

Your contention is incorrect
No, it isn't. He's talking about the degeneration of our society. Don't believe me? Just ask him.
quote:

I know a great deal about both those societies.

No, you don't. At best, you're a Google scholar. No one with meaningful knowledge would ever say 'the greeks were gay' or try to equate that element of some of their societies to ours.

Such an odd perspective.

I guess that observation comes from the "Everyone is supposed to get a trophy" perspective?

In real life sports, business, politics, etc. a challenger competes and beats his competitor, rather than whining that the opponent "won't give up."

Yep

Boomers walked off the high school stage and shook the foreman’s hand and got a good career

They got a house for like 12k and a car for 200 bucks and they got to retire after 20 years with a pension

The Scientific Method encourages questioning/retesting the hypothesis.

Critical Theory attacks the questioner.

You pick one. The bourgeoisie of Marxism? The Jews of Nazism? Whites in the 1619 project? Western civilization in anti-colonialism?

OP: 'Boomers were the driving force behind the normalization of homosexuality in modern times'

nope boy that was millennials you guys thought modern family was real, love is love that was millennials little revisionism at play, i'd be embarrassed about that too if were a millennial.

Early Support Leaders: During the late 2000s and early 2010s, roughly 70% of Millennials favored legal same-sex marriage, far outpacing Gen X, Baby Boomers, and the Silent Generation. per pew research.

member obama admitted he was on the wrong side of history, pepperidge farm remembers.

here's what's really happening you're hurtling towards 50 and you're starting to realize that you're not going to be as successful as your parents so you're looking for someone to blame and it couldn't possibly be you after "if you had fun you won!" so you're blaming your parents.

Which of course, neither was intended to do. No more than the term "European" reflects the very different languages etc the umbrella term connotes ... or "Boomer" does the very different groups the term might encompass.

But you are not. You changed the terminology. I responded to his post. I responded to your recharacterization of his statement. You are upset with the factual answer I provided. Seek a supportive safe space if you need one.

quote:

No one with meaningful knowledge would ever say 'the greeks were gay'
I would delineate "gay sex" as different than "being gay." One is an act. The other a lifestyle. I did not claim the Greeks were gay. OTOH both Greek and Roman males engaged in socially acceptable homosexual sex acts, including pederasty which of course remains illegal today.

Your understanding of Critical Theory is not the same as the Critical Theory developed at the Frankfurt School. Nazism is not an example of Critical Theory.

You're pointing to broad movements and labeling them Critical Theory. It's as though you arrived at a conclusion and are picking and choosing things that you hope support it, which is a bit ironic.

'Derp, Greeks were gay" is not a factual answer. But now you're trying to squirm out of it.
quote:

Collectively, no they didn't. Many even had very derogatory words for homos.

And again, comparing that to today is not at all accurate, and certainly not a valid deflection from the issue of your generation normalizing it to the degree we see today. Younger generations you cite ar the effect. They didn't all just wake up one day and decide to be super pro-gay.

And again, if that wasn't you personally doing it, great, you lost to the ones who did. Thanks for youer service, I guess.

Nazism is not an example of Critical Theory.
Of course it is.
Now there might be academics who would take exception to the observation. Just as there would be those who would shriek to high heaven over the rather obvious observation that Fascism is left wing. That's fine.

But factually, the Jews were nothing less than the bourgeoisie of Nazism.

My wife and I worked 40 years (each) and got graduate degrees while working full time and at the time 2 young children. The trophies we got were through and work and a desire to have better lives for our children.
I'm sick of these boomer threads.
