I'm glad that the USA is returning to the moon and planning to go to Mars so that we can make both of those places welcoming and safe for Trans Kids.

The Left would be celebrating if this were a CCP mission. They hate OMB so much it won’t even get covered.

Just a little distraction for the low IQ masses.

Told my wife I stayed a little late at work so I could watch the rocket launch. She said, what rocket launch? Said Artemis going to the moon. She said, really? She had no idea.

I am super stoked about it. I love space exploration. Pushing humanity to it's max capabilities.

That being said, it is concerning that it was not something discussed in their schools, but then again there is something to be said about waiting till the launch was successful before exposing it to a school of elementary kids…
An entire generation watched the Challenger blow up, many in elementary school. A kid in my brother's class even drew a picture of the explosion from the TV. We were fine. None of us were traumatized.
Raising soft kids has caused many of the problems we see today. There is nothing wrong with kids seeing that great accomplishments can carry great risk. This country was founded on risk.

Yeah Biden got blamed for gas prices and incumbents usually get dragged on affordability.
That is par for the course.

But I’m glad space exploration is back.

It's deafening because we have never been there before and I doubt we are going there now

Not by the media.

So, I've backed a bit off my criticism of the MSM here. They're still pretty bad though.

The three main broadcast networks spent hours covering it yesterday. We watched the launch and the entry into low orbit along with informative commentary.

The lack of coverage in schools is true and is also a good point.
The internet and social media have so completely fractured and splintered any chance at shared "mono culture" moments, that it was almost odd to even quasi have one yesterday. I would say we desperately - as a country - need one.
The overall tone from the crew has basically been: "We're American, we're proud, this is what we do - and this is what we NEED to do." It definitely seems like a new leaf has been turned over and it's refreshing.
I think there is no doubt whatsoever that there is an anti-Trump, anti-Elon bias that has impacted enthusiasm and depth of reporting/engagement on the topic overall.
Just wait until the summer of 2028 - election year - when the Olympics are in LA and we are landing on the moon and attempting to claim it's real estate. The melts are going to be epic.

how much news coverage was devoted to it well prior to, during, and afterward, as well as the subsequent return trips,
You have forgotten how interest trailed off after Apollo 11. 13 would have had little TV coverage if it hadn't been for the misfortune.
To your point about media, Artemis II was everywhere yesterday. It just hasn't reverberated through the zeitgeist like it did in the late 60s. First, is always the biggest deal, it is that way with everything. Finally, Trump only mentioned it for a few seconds at the beginning of his speech last night.

With all due respect...
SpaceX has been doing AMAZING things just like this, like over and over again. I've watched many of these launches, including several crewed missions to the ISS. And they had people cheering, and there was incredible graphics and play by play, and footage of the boosters landing upright. And even being grabbed out of the fricking air by these huge robot arms.
Did you watch any of these?
NASA isn't really doing shite we haven't already seen, in much more polished ways.

Nobody cares. This just looks like a giant waste of time and money.
