Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors (SSRIs) have been shown to have statistically significant, but potentiallyQuestionable, effects on depressive symptoms compared to placebos[5]. A meta-analysis showed that SSRIs had small beneficial effects compared to placebos in terms of efficacy, with a higher proportion of patients reporting adverse events[1].

While many depressed patients report improvement with antidepressant medication, studies show that the difference between the response to antidepressants and placebos is minimal

Ah yes, the ole placebo effect. A doctor would prescribe 'sugar pills' to a patient who somehow miraculously recovered.

Why would just taking plain old serotonin be prescribed to help out someone?

BTW, people have been dealing with depression, anxiety, fear...for thousands of years. Only recently, the last 40 somethingish years, have these mind altering drugs been prescribed to 'fix' someone.

No one should be getting their information from a commercial. What if they didn't see the commercial?

You suggested they were hiding the fact that it can cause suicidal ideation which leads to suicide. I simply don't think they're hiding it. People maybe ignorant and choose to not take responsibility for their own decisions to take a drug and not watch the warnings that come with it.

Should doctors and pharmacist warn people absolutely. And good ones do... Again this is something that's a known drug risk and been studied before. RFK Jr is just ignorant of the science as usual.

Just go down to the local head shop and buy you some hemp gummies. The higher the grams the happier you'll be.

You're welcome.

knew someone that was put on adderall for ptsd.

Seriously? That seems very counterproductive.

Adderall does Make life more fun and definitely helps to concentrate on task but it has to be channeled effectively. I struggled with that. Long term, itt made me anti-social. I found that it made me better at work but worse at life. My relationships suffered, friends, family and romantic.

I don’t believe it’s anywhere remotely near 13%, it’s much higher.

We've been dealing with infection and disease for thousands of years too.

Should we just abandon all of modern medicine?

Were you on Lexapro when The Donald broke you?

Not sure what he was on at that moment, but he did have to either change meds or increase the dose.

eta: Alas, the answer does not lie in this legendary post:

About 15 years ago I was put on antidepressants for migraines. fricked my eating habits, didn’t enjoy my mood changes, and I quickly weened myself off of them responsibly. But instead of rooting out the cause they tried an SSRi. Turns out my trigger was caffeine and limiting it, especially on days with storms, was the only thing I needed to do.

If RFK jr would get behind psylocibin, DMT and medical marijuana for mental and physical disorders, I would support him.

Based on anecdotal experience, I think PTSD is a brain injury

I had friends who had complete recoveries and got off all their medications.

Edit - I think we’ve always known it too, in WW1 we called it shell shock.

Best antidepressants are loving God, prayer, loving family, good friends, hard work, exercise, and sex.

Isn't Adderal a watered down version of meth?

Ritalin is a stimulant similar to meth?

There’s no quotas.
there are no quotas per se; but there are discounts and preferential treatment for back ordered supplies and new treatments - docs that prescribe more on the “preferred” list see new stuff 1st; and some of these offices run their own pharmacy

At least with him in there instead of someone beholden to big pharma money there’s a chance that these types of things could be looked at.
