Hank will be here soon to let us all know tgat we aren't viewing these false allegations correctly. I am sure that according to him this was simply an honest mistake which that remedied with this acknowledgement. He will then tell us that any inteeligent person woukd ignore the sensationalist headline from yesterday.

The real goal is court packing. The Democrats are banking on winning the Presidential election. If they cant remove Kavanaugh from office, this is their back up plan...cast enough damaging stories on him that the next Democratic president will call for expanding the Supreme Court because they will say Kavanaugh is a tainted judge. I mean, some of the Democratic candidates have already openly discussed it. Slandering Kavanaugh is all part of the process. Get him out or use it as a tool to expand the court. Democrats are the true enemy of the people.

The very basis on the assertion the article was about declines to speak and says she does not recall the incident (if memory serves, this knowledge came out during the hearings) but they go ahead with the article anyway?

Exactly. Cause a kerfuffle with wild accusations then bury the retractions quietly later after the damage has long since been done.

Of course it is. Very few people read an article more than once so they will see the original, false, accusation but never see the correction that it was indeed false.
It also gave cover to all of the Democrat candidates to call for his impeachment and they will never take that back so even more people hear about the false allegation and will never know the truth.
