I’d agree. Easy to swap out antennas. But they cannot do it for the “real” electronic and kinetic countermeasure systems or probably 1,000 other things that exist outside the public realm.

Iran smuggles weapons to terrorist all the time. You can take something like a Stinger missile and hit the big arse blue and white plane with a giant red stripe down the middle pretty easy with one of those. All you need is an idiot willing to do it and they have no shortage of those. Now it would be stupid to do that. I’m sure Turkey would be so embarrassed that a sitting US President got greased on its soil that Iran would answer to them. Also the man portable systems Iran has comes from China. I’m sure the Chinese would be pissed too. Is it likely to happen no butIran is not going to fly a jet on over to Turkey to shoot down AF1. Man portable systems have a range up to so many feet. They best way to kill AF1 would be with a man portable system either as it taxis down the runway or not lot after it leaves the ground because it would be harder for countermeasures to be used at those moments. It’s not like Iran would be able to strap a couple of heat seeking missiles to a pigeon to shoot down AF1. They have no planes. They would have to use a man portable system to do it with and they would do it at AF1’s most vulnerable moment. While on the ground or just after it leaves the ground.

His military advisors probably warned him about venerablilties of a retrofitted loaned AF1 but because potus is potus and has been complaining about age of AF1 fleet, he just wanted to fly on a newer aircraft just for appearances and no other reason. Let Boeing do their jobs with New AF1 fleet to ensure potus’ safety. Safety over vanity is an easy choice for some people but not all

Because it was a personal gift to him not US Govt, he gets to keep it when he leaves office as a donation, and got tax payer dollars to retrofit it to carry potus, no other potus will ever fly on that particular plane.

I think Trump may planning to do the same thing that was done at the Reagan Library. The Reagan Library has an actual AF1 Reagan used while in office. I think Trump may be planning the same.

One nutjob with an old stinger on the right rooftop is all it takes.

At this point we should just be glad that anything Boeing designs is not falling out of the sky on top of someone’s house. They haven’t had a very good run the past few years so if they need 10 years to get a new AF1 built then by all means they should just take those 10 years.
