You think labor is cheap, but you need a small army to run a restaurant. Cooks, dishwashers, hosts, servers, bartenders, admin, cleaning crew, etc.

Food is about a third of the costs

Overhead (rent, bills, insurance) is about a third

Waste is insane.

Broken dishes amd lost silverware, Togo goods, etc adds up in a hurry

I'd bet most bartenders etc don't pay any federal income tax as is. They don't make a lot of money, usually have kids etc. Probably doesn't effect the bottom line much.

FICA. And the employer gets a credit for their side of that tax.

That's a burden that is already on the customers. It's just written on the receipt in a different way.

Cool. I predict I will figure out how to make it so my company is paid mostly by “tips”.

I’ve been pushing & writing “no tax on tips” on every reciept. I spoke to a few different bartenders. Each one said IRS is after them.

The 87,000 new irs agents that the GOPe has not cut funding for will be busy.

How so?
Sounds like someone that never worked overtime hours just to see most of it stolen.

This is all purely politics. No tax on tips sounds great until you find out employers are only required to pay tip heavy employees $2.13 an hour. And tbh, I haven't figured out how I feel about it yet.

I don't understand the restaurant industry in this country. Every smart investor I talk to says the food industry is a great way to separate a fool from his money. They buy food cheap as hell from Sysco and don't pay their staff worth a shite.

Where the frick does all the money go?

I never could figure how a bar goes bankrupt. The markup is insane and the overhead seems low. Is it just epically piss poor management?

Income is income, the government should treat all income the same. Whether it comes from salary, tips, gambling winnings, or investments.

No tax on BONUSES.

The Fed Govt makes it harder and harder to actually make a profit….then when private sector teams adapt and overcome to actually do so….the same motherfrickers show up to STEAL.

Kamala is pushing the same thing. How about we just pay them more than having people rely on tips to justify cheap wages.

National restaurant association will make sure that never happens

A bunch of stuff is popular.

Climate change, "making the rich pay their fair share," abortion, immigration, all kinds of stuff.

In fact, I think it's generally obvious that the worse an idea it is, the more likely it is to be popular.

I'll let y'all draw the logical conclusion from those observations.
