I see SFPDS is real after seeing downvotes to this post.

Thread got me worked up at first but the title / original tweet are clickbait and what's actually referenced in the bill is far more specific
This kind of bill is for legislators who want to convince people they're helping but isn't the kind that makes a difference either way
quote:is nowhere close to the same as
New York bill would ban AI from answering questions related to medicine, law, dentistry, nursing, psychology, social work, engineering, & more.
quote:AI shouldn't be giving diagnoses or legal counsel. The good news is they don't, and even if this bill never came to a vote companies already wouldn't be risking it
The bill would hold AI companies liable specifically for harm caused by chatbots performing tasks that, if carried out by a human, would constitute unauthorized practice of a licensed profession, such as providing medical diagnoses or legal counsel.

As a lawyer who incorporates limited AI use (only with signed client permission) in my practice, I say that's beyond retarded
CLIO and other law practice software incorporates AI in their programs
Not sure a state can stop a lawyer from using it but that's a question

Idiots. Just call/consult AI based in Texas or Louisiana.
Yay Democracy. This is on the voters.

I can't speak for medicine, but if enough applicable case law is a available to analyze and/or if enough available content analyzing the cases exist (both are very prevalent for most legal questions), it can give pretty accurate legal advice
I don't use it in that way for actual practice, but I use it more to test it, and it's shockingly good.
And I have been using Google as a starting point for some legal research for 10+ years. Google, pre-AI, had vastly superior search results for general questions, specifically if asked conceptually. Then you find a case or article that uses the correct term or cites the correct case/law and you go to WL/LN to get deeper on the legal analysis

No, but I have seen the AI version of Barbie and Ken doing their thing!

AI will take over all those jobs and fighting it will really not matter. Mankind decided to open pandoras box and its not going to close.

This won't stop it. Many industries have tried to stop technologies they feel threatened them but it's a speed bump.

AI is a very bad thing for the future of humanity

They scared.
Maybe its not coming for just the coders.

Sorry to hijack, but have any of you lawyers that have used a/i experienced issues with “hallucinations” ?

If it comes for white collar jobs our economy will crater. Trump had to inject trillions in 2020 to hold the effects of what they thought were 30-90 days of unemployment.

The lower tier billable hour is fricked (doc review, research, deposition summaries, etc.). Young law students trying to funnel big law are going to potentially be in for a rude awakening.

The last thing the left wants is AI interpreting the constitution
Posted on 3/5/26 at 10:51 pm to TrueTiger
Can you imagine a world where you have to trade black market models of ChatGPT that can actually answer questions people give a frick about.

Well, lawyers have a real problem.
Making the use of AI in the legal realm impermissible is an alarm bell for all.
The way the legal system works in this nation is about to undergo rapid and monumental change. NY and the ABA can’t stop that - that movement will die from within at the hands of younger attorneys that can deploy AI.
The winners will be the larger firms that merge and have capital to effectively deploy AI. That’s the only way - the sole practitioners, small boutique firms up to small regional firms are all but toast once their elderly client base dies.
The habits of today’s youth and young adults have set the stage for AI. Those kids don’t want to interact with a banker, lawyer, accountant, investment advisor, insurance agent, car salesman, real estate agent, etc.
