The average American is a dimwitted, overconfident dolt.

This is a perfect example of the Dunning-Kruger Effect.

I could probably survive longer in the wilderness than in Chicago.

2 Weeks? Pretty achievable with a lifestraw and access to fresh water.

Depends on so many factors. You have to eat something over those two weeks, and a large portion of people out there have no idea what's poisonous. I like to hike and camp, but I'd have issues with procuring food.

So, basically as long as the food they carry in will hold out?

That’s not “surviving”.

How many could survive with virtually no notice or preparation? No stockpiling food, no no nothing...

Ahh, The Land of the Trembling Earth. It ain't childs play.

The islands move around with the wind, one can get lost in a hurry.

I lived two years in Fargo, back in the early fifties.

Survival is sustainable if you and a few others go off grid. There’s simply not enough wildlife in most states to live off the land with 350M people.

I think a decent number could survive a week or so in the mountains. We’re talking perfect spring/summer weather with a cool running water source. Well... if they don’t get eaten by bears first.

Agreed. I’m probably more capable of surviving than 98% but I’d rather be within reach of my kitchen, bedroom and bathroom. I’m old now damn it. That shite would just make me irritable lol

LOL, umm nope.

How many resources is that person going to have?

A good knife, a Ferro rod to start a fire, a pot to boil water to make it safe to drink, just procuring water, cordage, compass(and how to use it), some sort of tarp to shield from the rain, wind, & sun, some sort of sleeping apparatus to lay down on, how do you deal with diarrhea and/or constipation, what about those nasty skeeters & other biting insects, food gathering...

Its a lot harder than most folks realize.

Yeah, and the same would majority would likely believe that the chances of an event that would trigger the necessity for "two weeks in the wilderness"...is highly unlikely as well.

There are a few highly trained people who could guide an unskilled group to somewhat success, depending on the geographic area, season, equipment and the personal grit in said group. Otherwise, a lot of people would lose their will to endure...especially if there was no hope of going straight back into the easy life to which they were accustomed...after the two weeks.

Like Nicholson said "you people can't handle the truth". Truth is, most wouldn't come close; but they can not afford to admit it. I can. At 70, chances are slim on that 2 weeks, minus top equipment and a good reason to make it through.

I think that Show "Alone" is a pretty good indicator. Though there are no real pros on it.

A fair chuck, if not a majority, could probably still be alive in two weeks if they could figure out a water situation that didn’t kill them, but they wouldn’t be thriving.

Very few could thrive, but even they would go down after not too long. Like that guy in Alone who had a great shelter, water, ample food, everything he needed, but barely made it due to a lack of fat in his diet.
