Is it possible that things aren't as bad as the Dems made it seem?

Obviously, there are many factors that go into commodity pricing, but my immediate guess is due to lack of demand for new construction. More than happy for someone to correct me.

The Dems? They’re always psycho. It’s the RINOs and weak minded “repubs” that piss me off

Building materials haven't dropped enough. I'm remodeling a hall bathroom and when I'm finished with all the materials it's gonna be $8k for a hall bath. I'm doing the job myself so I'm probably saving $8k but it's the idea the building materials for a hall bathroom is $8K.

The wife wants the bath room off the Master bedroom (did I use master bath, I did) updated too, my guesstimate cost for the remodel if I have a contractor do the work will be $35-40K minimum. I may be doing another remodel.

And, it's not going to rebound for a good long while. Interest rates continue to climb, the source driving hiring and wage growth (AI buildout) has been sidelined, markets in correction territory, and Americans are in debt up to their eyeballs. Soooo....yeah, stagflation's on tap for another 3-5 years.

A 20 year war, occupation, and reconstruction in the Middle East will fix that.

It’s because no one wants to build anything

Things were really coming together well with the economy, and we were getting ready to boom. The Dem voters are too brainwashed by the MSM and downright uneducated to care, they don't understand economics.
They measure things by how many dicks they can cut off of kids, how many babies they got to kill last year, how many people have nose rings and neck tats and how many groups feel like the patriarchy is oppressing them....
The fundamentals of a great economy that raises all ships...arbitrary and uneccessary. Just open the border and let it frickin fly.

Price of lumber isn’t too bad right now, I do remodeling on the side. No one is building right now so that’s probably more of a factor and no the economy isn’t as bad as Democrats claim

Everyone who bought a brand new house since 2019 just lost some value.

Yep, it is all about squeezing those dollars one way or the other. Either interest or materials make their play for them. It is too bad their is not a known rate which allows a fair exchange for the dollars.

Interest up, lumber down. Interest down, lumber up. I generally just put pressure on the RE agent to lower their commission to offset the extra cost burden.

I'm in the lumber business and I can address this piece of misinformation.

In February of 2020 -- right before Covid -- #2 SYP 2x6-12' was $300 mbf mill price.

Today that exact same board is the exact same price. $300 mbf mill.

Now, SPF studs from interior Canada are over $550 delivered Atlanta/Dallas/Memphis. That's a combination of higher tariffs and higher transportation costs. That's up about 30% from pre covid levels.

Most all other building products such as windows, insulation, wiring, tile, fixtures, appliances, etc. Those are all higher by 30-50%. Which is a combination of tariffs, general price inflation, and fuel driven transportation costs.

This is an area where I simply know what I'm talking about.

But if you want to know why a house that cost $120 sfr to build 10 years ago costs $200 sft to build today, I can tell you:

Tariffs
Transportation costs
General inflation pressures
Labor shortage due to immigration policies
Higher interest rates

Lumber prices are the same -- or lower when adjusted for inflation -- than 10 years ago.
