No, not implying anything. Mamdani reportedly captured 78% of the youth vote, so most of the people in this video who voted, voted for him.

Maybe it gives an insight into the people dumb enough to vote for him--that they think Mamdani socialism will actually improve their living situation, when historically it's only ever led to severe economic failure, shortages, and authoritarian control. Likewise that Mamdani's rent control often causes higher rent prices for non-rent-controlled apartments, meaning they would have to pay even more for their shoebox apartments.

Watching street interviews prior to the election with young people who were enthusiastically voting for Mamdami. One of the primary reasons was cutting the cost of living in NYC including lowering the cost of rent and housing. They are complete and hopeless brain-dead dolts.

I'll agree. Spent 3 years on TR on a bottom rack and never felt like I did watching that video.

So communist then ? Is that what you are advocating ? That's what Mandani and the DSA are all about.

If you don't like it then blame those in power who caused this. No Socialist/Communist ever tool over a well-run nation. You think the Big Beautiful Bill was great? Its cuts will only feed the fire. So will the cost of living. Young people are guidable and seeking an alternative to the failed policies of the big 2

Very reminiscent of the old B&W photos from Soviet Union in the 50's-80's leading right up to the collapse.

I'm on 1.13 acres in 2,300 sqft and it's not big enough.

Give me the Yellowstone Dutton Ranch and we're getting somewhere.

Ah ok, he just brought up Mamdani by accident in the thread title for fun then i guess?

This video has nothing to do with politics, yet the thread title clearly is being presented as such. Almost like an implication wouldn't you say?

For some, I think it's the ridiculousness of trying to convince themselves it's fine, like those folks who were all-in on the "tiny house" craze and now regret it. They can say "I live in 'the city'" and feel so proud of themselves.

Others are probably just doing it for a year or two to get experience on their resume from a big firm (my goddaughter did this -but not to that extent- to get a year of Goldman-Sachs on her resume, in finance it's apparently a golden ticket for parlaying into a better job elsewhere).

Being willing to put up with that sort of thing is part of being young, you just have to hope they eventually grow out of it.

There are plenty of good spacious apartments in New York city. For decent/fair prices. But they are not in the hippest parts of downtown or hipster brooklyn. They are in the not so hip but still safe parts of Brooklyn (like the Rockaways, the Ocean is steps from your front door), Bayside, the area around Fordham University - which is also Bronx "Lilttle Italy" and criminals are deal with by local Soprano types the old fashioned way (well, not exactly but you get my point).

You can live in NY very nicely if you are willing to live a 20-30 minute subway ride away from "the action".

Just picked this out of the blue. Live with a roomate, both pay 1400 (is that really a ton of money when you consider NY salaries nowadays?) and the subway 6 line is like 300 yards away and runs 24 hours.

Thanks Eurocat.

We dont always agree but you are right. You can live in many affordable places in NYC and take the subway to work within 30 minutes. NYC is a vast city with 5 boroughs, most of whom dont work in upper Manhattan.

Can Mamdani blame Eric Adams for this? He's been in office for 10 months.

Trump is 21 months into his second term and he's still blaming Biden, Obama, and Clinton.

I just can't wrap my head around how people want to live like that

because lots of people, especially young people, want to live in nyc and are willing to make those sacrifices? maybe they're not interested in a larger place to live if that means living in a louisiana swamp? real estate is cheaper most anywhere nationwide than downtown nyc, this isn't a surprise. i'm sure plenty just want to be cool - or perceived as cool - for living right in the thick of it. imo most are there for job opportunities that don't really exist anywhere else
