The only way I’m doing that is if I’m young and I know it’s temporary (1-2 years) while I work on a promotion or degree/certification that will create generational wealth for my future family.

And even then it may not even be worth it

The argument used to be something along the lines of, "well, the whole big vibrant city is my 'living room,'" which part of me could sort of wrap my head around.

But then, homegirl there (like so many of these folks it seems now) is getting DoorDash delivered, and likely "working from home" a good bit of the time.

Worse living conditions than the bottom rack on an aircraft carrier.

I see so many young people on the streets of Manhattan these days and very few business people. With rents as crazy high as they are, I can understand this kind of shoe box living or lots of roommates is very real.

And I’m guessing rent is at least twice my mortgage payment on my modest 2100 ft^2 house.

These are the same people who will call us poor and stupid for living in MS and LA while our master bathrooms are larger than their apartments.

This is why they are Mamdani voters because the previous mayors from the big 2 parties were terrible.

Blame it on very tiny hats and the people that wear them.

So what you are implying is all of these places that people are living in, just started popping up in the last 10 months since Mamdani became mayor?

Pretty sure that is just what happens when you shove 8.8 million people into 300 square miles. NYC has a population bigger than all but 12 states. yet is smaller than Dallas.

Nonanswer.

The answer is to take from some and give to others.
