Just amazes me (guess it shouldn't anymore) that people cannot understand that the price of a good is the price of its inputs plus margin.

Price of input goes up, price of product goes up.

Affordability was definitely the main issue. Problem is Republicans did not address the reason why their is an affordability issue and they let the Democrats blame it all on the last two years.

Reality is the current affordability issue was caused by Covid policies, Democrat hourly wage policies, and illegal immigration.

Covid policies drive up cost of everything, but most impactful was housing costs. Home prices skyrocketed because construction stopped creating an inventory shortage. Once those prices were sustained over years, they are not coming back down and it's the new reality.

With housing price increase you have insurance and taxes increasing because they are based on a % of the property value. This includes rental homes and apartments. Someone is paying taxes and insurance and that is prices into the rent.

Illegal immigration added to the housing issue. Those people had to live somewhere and added to the demand on an already low supply. Interesting that you rarely ever see the illegals being homeless on the streets. that's because they were getting the government checks that could have gone to struggling citizens that no longer could afford housing costs.

Increased hourly wages. The Democrats policies to artificially increased hourly wages caused an additional multiplier to inflation. It was a gimmick because the wages did not increase in an economic vacuum. As wages went up, the cost of the goods went up to cover those higher wages. Those increases take some time to filter through the economy and when it finally does, the increase in pay is wiped out by the increase is cost of everything. The only entity that won is the govt that collects takes on higher wages and higher sales tax. Congrats on giving yourselves a tax increase and no cost of living increase. Idiots.

Its called Priming

They're repeating nonsense over and over (see the bots here) until otherwise ignorant people believe it.

Hell, they're still trying to say here that Trump did nothing he promised

Trump not only didn't do anything about affordability, he called it a hoax.

What is it you think could have been done?

Also, you know why Trump didn't do anything about it?

Because it largely IS a hoax. You can't fix a hallucination.

Trump has never been a good communicator. I don't know what he said about this, but I can imagine. I'm not advocating for straight up denying it, but this is one of those things that Trump riffs on freestyle at a rally and people think he's crazy, and you find out six months later he was 100% correct about it.

Rent is more expensive than it's been in my lifetime (due to illegal immigration, mostly). Health insurance does keep going up due mostly to Obamacare...its the gift that keeps on giving. And college has vastly outpaced inflation as well, although Trump cutting the amount that students could borrow for certain majors already has some colleges talking about cutting their tuition in half. Plus, there are certain strategies that used to be common when I was college age that can still be employed to make college much more affordable.

Everything else? It's a manufactured narrative.

Trump ignored the affordability issue and it hurt him. He made fun of it when it was brought up. He told people at rallies about all the money THEY were making. The THEY was not the american people.

I don't disagree Trump mishandled lot of shite and said a lot of shite, what I'm saying if a young person voted DSA because they were angry over Trump's poor efforts to address affordability, well, it's quite likely they are going to get a lot more of what they were angry about when the DSA takes political control.

Why are you avoiding tariff policy that has added a significant price burden on almost everything, and which is reversible?

The tariffs are supposedly part of an economic strategy to reduce the US trade deficit and to encourage US companies to bring their companies/production back to the US to help American workers. Will it work? Who knows.

I know Trump is the only president who has seriously tried get some of the US industrial/manufacturing base returned to the US. If the Covid-19 Hysteria Psyop taught us anything it's how dependent the US is on foreign suppliers of critical goods. Not good.

likely add another $2-3 trillion to US debt, thereby further debasing the USD along with the affordability issues that come with another 10-15 million illegal migrants entering the US over the next several years.

Trump has added 4T to the debt in his second term (in two years) while cutting every program that benefits the poor/working class while giving tax breaks to billionaires.

If we are going to add debt, the common man's view is that it should at least help the people who need it most.

Every President/administration going forward is going to fight a losing battle against the law of "large numbers" to service the $40 trillion of US taxpayer debt. It would take a 20-30% reduction in the current US budget just to bring any hope of paying down the debt. I still believe there's 20-30% of the current federal budget that's waste, fraud and straight up theft of some manner.

Housing? I don't think so

How about just not saying "I'm going to make sure home prices don't drop." Whether he had a solution or not is irrelevant when he is telling the people complaining he doesn't care. The DNC has no solution but they listened to the complaints.

Again the messaging on tariffs is atrocious. I'm not an economist so I won't pretend to know the true economic impact, but I can tell you he lost the message on tariffs having an impact on affordability.

Trump could have literally done nothing but listen to complaints and the GOP retains the Senate last night. Instead he did nothing and told everyone to kick rocks. Absolute most retarded strategy imaginable for a person who won the popular vote, controlled both chambers of Congress, and has a friendly SCOTUS.

Manufactured? Your graphs are manufactured. What could he have done? Go spend some time with 25-30 year olds and ask them how much money they’ve been able to save or invest. Trump didn’t want to do anything to cause the price of homes to go down. Ignore the facts all you want and there will just be a repeat of this in 2 years.

How much does the sitting President affect the price of homes in two years? People also have misguided expectations which is part of the flip flop.

Tariffs seemed even worse -- at least directly and immediate -- for my small business than diesel. Diesel is the huge one for my brother who owns a small trucking company though.

Not sure the answers.

But the biggest corporations making record profits while small business owners are tightening their belts to the bone to stay afloat while cutting hours and jobs of their employees isn't the answer many are going to vote to continue.
