I've been reading and hearing a lot of commentary about affordability being the main issue

Let's say Trump does not attack Iran and the national price of gas is $3.00/gallon vs $4.15/gallon.

Ok so gas is cheaper without the Iran situation, someone tell me what else would be significantly cheaper today if Iran had not been attacked.

Housing? I don't think so
Milk? I don't think so
Insurance? I don't think so
Automobiles? I don't think so

I could go on listing some other consumer stables/items but excluding the price of gasoline, overall I don't think the affordability issue would be all that much different with or without Iran. About the best the American people could hope for is GDP over 3-4% and inflation dropping below 2%. With that said at least the average American family wouldn't be losing ground to inflation.

The 25-30% cumulative inflation that occurred from 2021-2024 for the most part is never going away, in fact there has been another 6-7% of cumulative inflation added to Biden's 25-30% inflation since Trump took office. Inflation is extremely sticky and the only way inflation is ever truly reversed is through a catastrophic deflationary event that generally crushes the working class.....literally an economic depression

If younger Americans voted DSA because of affordability issues they better get ready for a shite ton more of potential affordability issues that come with a massive omnibus bill, a bill that will likely add another $2-3 trillion to US debt, thereby further debasing the USD along with the affordability issues that come with another 10-15 million illegal migrants entering the US over the next several years.

I wonder what the effects of AI/SI, automation and robotics will do for affordability and employment prospects? Topic for another time.

It’s just like a football coach getting fired when their quarterback sucks and costs them games.

Trump is the big cheese, so he’ll be the one that takes the hits.

People would care more about a nuclear Iran if their needs were being met first, but it doesn’t seem to be the case.

You’re assuming people have critical thinking skills. They don’t. High egg prices = bad! High gas prices= bad!
Something tells me the grand total of eggs and gas aren’t your biggest expenses

Trump ignored the affordability issue and it hurt him. He made fun of it when it was brought up. He told people at rallies about all the money THEY were making. The THEY was not the american people.

This is the big part. The amount of illegals that likely come through over the next 6-8 years will be astounding to these idiots.

Congrats!

Why are you avoiding tariff policy that has added a significant price burden on almost everything, and which is reversible?

Normal republicans every day joes were sold American first. Make America great, bring back the good ol days. Yada yada.

Trump got us into a fresh shiny new war in the sand, the GOPe has refused to move an agenda forward and for the most part, people are the same or worse off economically than we were two years ago.

ICE has done a good job and the tranny fad is passing.

Other than that most people are let down biggly. I was hoping to hold the Senate but seeing the results play out makes perfect sense.

Trump has added 4T to the debt in his second term (in two years) while cutting every program that benefits the poor/working class while giving tax breaks to billionaires.

If we are going to add debt, the common man's view is that it should at least help the people who need it most.

The cost of gas impacts the cost of milk significantly. How does milk get to the store? How do groceries get to the store?

When groceries are impacted along with materials, guess what goes up? CPI.

When CPI goes up, so do rent and vehicles.

Your OP is completely wrong.

2020 we had a pandemic. US inflation was less than the world as a whole.

Perhaps he shouldn’t have campaigned on lower prices/cost of living in 2024 then.

This.^

In addition to higher fuel prices, there’s the increase in goods due to the tarriffs. Add to that the lie that the cost of the tarriffs would be borne by foreign countries and it became insulting to our intelligence.
Idiots believed him though.

You think it's illogical to hold the view that "hey, we are spending the same or more money, but I'm now getting less? Something is wrong with that."

Trump not only didn't do anything about affordability, he called it a hoax. Kids struggling to make ends meet did not take kindly to it. Instead of blaming the people that changed their vote to D, how about blame the people in office that did absolutely nothing to try and make things more affordable.

If inflation wasn’t being driven upward by oil prices, overall inflation would be closer to core inflation at just over 2%, and the fed would almost certainly be lowering interest rates which would drive the cost of housing up a little, but would also allow people who wanted to buy a house to buy one because their monthly payments would be lower. This would also take people out of the rental market and lead to lower rents. It’s not one to one. Obviously there are a variety of factors involved in any local housing markets’ pricing, but the interest rates are a result of the war and are making people feel stuck. Likewise the interruption of fertilizer and the price of diesel have driven food costs up, which people have to pay regularly and which can make them feel sour about an otherwise solid economy

Young men didnt vote for DSA because they think their policies are great. They did so because they made the calculation that the pain of DSA having power was worth the chance of one day in the future being able to win. They knew that as long as people like you run the GOP, Israel, and protecting asset prices of old people will always take precedent over everything

The way the debt is growing eventually we are going to have to cut spending and raise taxes simultaneously and it’s going to be as popular here as it was thought Europe following 2008
