re: I’m a medical provider:Why we should be concerned about COVID-19

But it’s silly to argue that 13 patients in respiratory distress who also tested positive for Covid 19 maybe died from _________ (fill in the blank) instead.
I'm with you here. Obviously if a person has the virus, has mild symptoms and dies of some other condition (heart disease, stroke, cancer even), hard to discount the virus at least as a factor. I can see the argument both ways, but a stretch to discount the virus (obviously if they get hit by a bus or die in a plane crash, that's different).
If they are having severe symptoms, in respiratory distress, I don't think we can blame anything other than the virus, even if they have CHF, COPD, etc.

A PA with that poor of English and grammar? Yeah I don’t think so.

Probably will get downvoted, but IMO most of us are eventually gonna catch the virus... and yes, most of us will not experience any inconvenient discomfort from it... but in order to "slow roll" the virus (so not to completely overwhelm hospitals at once), sucky things like cancelling sporting events and concerts are a necessary evil. If there's any way to successfully have a "chicken pox party"-type mass gathering while keeping the most vulnerable people contained, so we can get it over with and go on with our lives before my stocks are worth what's left of the TP supply at Costco, then I'm all for it

Great info. However, you’re wasting your time here. This is Trumphumper country. Dear Leader told them it was a hoax.

And who gives a shite. Has anyone reading this not had the flu at some point? Should we destroy the economy because of the flu? Everybody panic you might get a flu like illness!???

The flu has a mortality rate of about 0.1% vs coronavirus 2-3.4% (CDC and WHO).
Not what Dr. Fauci says.He puts it a 1%.Can we stop with this speculation til we get more people tested?

The coronavirus has no vaccine and is MUCH MORE INFECTIOUS.
It's much more infectious if you're over 65 based on what we KNOW so far.Not one fataliy under 10 years...worldwide.
H1N1 was FAR more contagious to children and working adults.60 Million estimated and 87% UNDER 65= LINK
quote:
Eighty-seven percent of deaths occurred in those under 65 years of age with children and working adults having risks of hospitalization and death 4 to 7 times and 8 to 12 times greater, respectively,
quote:
the coronavirus could easily kill more than 2 million people.
How in the world can ANYONE come to an absurd conclusion base off so much incomplete data in this country?
We do know for that the rate of new cases has slowed considerably and China and mortality rates outside of Wuhan is about 0.7%
LINK Wether you want to believe the Chinese or not their markets have rebounded significantly. LINK

Hopefully this helps clear up some of the bullshite that ignorant people with no healthcare knowledge or experience are spreading about how there is nothing to worry about.
Don't know about "bullshite" but I did listen to what the ex head of the CDC (Dr. Freiden)said about 5 hours ago.Does he quality a "medical professional?" Even though he disagrees with you?

Dude! You’re a PA. You barely have any medical training. Go fear monger somewhere else. ;)

significant amount of our population is vaccinated against the flu which protects the populations as a whole
bullshite, and you know it.
Yes, corona is very transmittable. But we know the more susceptible victims, and they are now being protected. I can visit my own mother in an assisted living home.
Point being, the death rate % will drop drastically as the elderly are more protected, so it simply wont kill a high amount of younger infected.

The most important part that is not being explained very well is this:
Even if the mortality rate is equivalent to the average flu, that rate comes with the assumption that everyone with severe symptoms has access to full medical care— such as ventilators. If we don’t slow the rate of infection then too many vulnerable people will become infected and develop pneumonia and overwhelm the system. We will run out of ventilators and other life saving devices and people that would normally survive will die, thus increasing the death rate dramatically.
TLDR: Millions could die if the rate of infection exceeds our capacity for care.

You’re a retard that doesn’t understand math.

Hey you cannot hold medical professionals responsible for poor english and grammar. We dictate everything. Hell the majority of my posts are made using dictation software (including this one). That is one of the reasons why I make so many typos.

You have no clue how any kind of computer modeling works. The dork you are trying to cite probably played an online sim game to come up with that nonsense.

Infectious disease experts are predicting 40-60% of population will be infected
The Spanish Flu only infected 1/3 of the population during a time of poor healthcare and poor sanitation and millions of people were living in filthy trenches. And I'm supposed to believe that this virus will spread to twice that percentage of the population when no recent pandemic has reached over 20%? The current numbers in no way suggest that coronavirus will be anywhere close to that.

It's not JUST the incompetence. It's the sheer scale of the incompetence.

Yeah, we could totally handle 1,000,000 people having severe pneumonia all at once. You bet.

I am a retired healthcare provider(RN).All this speculation about mortality rates is driving me crazy.Nobody knows ,at this point, how deadly it is.Maybe I am jaded but I refuse to get panicked,I worked through many bad flu seasons,SARS and MERS.
At the same time,I believe it is wise to be prudent and avoid crowds, hand washing etc.
I think time will tell whether all the drastic measures being taken were necessary but it is better to be safe than sorry.
I’m glad that our dependency on China and India for such a high percentage of our medications and medical supplies is being exposed. This situation should never have been allowed to happen,
Actually, the most anxiety I am feeling is about Trump’s chance of being re-elected.All this shite couldn’t have come at a worse time,I just hope and pray that this is a short term situation and the economy rebounds in time for the election.

I’m just illustrating the OP’s appeal to (self) authority fallacy. There’s no one authoritative opinion on this. There’s just not a large enough sample size yet in this country.
