It's the same logic the Republican base used to abandon conservatism in favor of populism.
Everybody (rightly) got mad because Republican politicians didn't stand up for conservative values once they got in office and instead of primarying the hell out of them and voting in actual conservatives who would, they just chucked conservatism altogether in favor of populism.
It's the same thing.
People have got to start understanding that there is nothing wrong with "the system." The "system" works just like it's supposed to and we are getting exactly the government we collectively voted for and deserve as a populace.
The problem is with "the voter," not "the system."
We could throw them all out and start over any old time we chose to, but we won't. We want to blame "the system." But we ARE the system.

It’s fascinating to watch. Who is actually changing their stripes?
