How will "No Voice - No Play" affect the upcoming College Football Season?

Chat on several message boards indicate a growing possibility that many black college athletes will boycott games during the upcoming football and basketball season as a means to address political gerrymandering occuring in several Southern & Midwestern states. Jury nullification has also been mentioned as a potential tool. Are we headed toward a potential showdown later this summer?

If you honestly believe a large # of black 18-23 men, many of whom are going to school in a different place they live and vote, give a flying frick about district gerrymandering, and would do anything to jeopardize the rev share and NIL money they are getting, I've got 10 bridges to the moon to sell you.

Whether it occurs is irrelevant...the bigger question is how does the school administration and coaches address and plan for the possibility of a player strike. Just the talk and uncertainty of such an event would be extremely disruptive to a football program.

How often does something like this happen anyway?
Only one I am aware of is the Grambling player strike some years back and that was due to the school bouncing them all over the country playing various “classics” on busses.
That was an FCS team in one of the shittiest conferences where the coach had just resigned months earlier due to broken promises. It was also pre-NIL.
I don’t see any major conference FBS team pulling such a stunt. Mid-majors along the lines of MAC, C-USA, or Sun Belt? That may be different.

With the exception of Oregon and USC about every other competitive college football program is located in a red state that has either redistricted or is looking at redistricting.

The chances of this happening is nil to none, and nil just left the building.
If somehow this movement got some steam, what would happen is that the handful of players who boycotted would sit out a game and the team would proceed without them. Those players would then return for the next game.

Just a point about your use of the term gerrymandering in the OP. The prior districts were the result of gerrymandering. The new district maps fix that.
