re: DOJ and FTC press states to target any illegal activity contributing to high gas prices
Posted by OldManRiver on 7/6/26 at 8:55 am to ragincajun03
Is there an accepted barrel price to gallon price ratio that the stations "should" be hitting? A historical norm if you will?
We'd all love it if gas was $1.50 a gallon, but I'm sure there's a reasonable floor somewhere, just curious how that is set and what the consensus is

How can you say the last Portuguese defender didn’t make a deliberate play on the ball? Was he not trying to get in the way of it?

I still think Freese should absolutely be the starter for the duration of the tournament. Turner’s feet are so bad that we can’t risk building out of the back against a high press with him in goal
I feel like if Turner was presented the olimpico chance that Freese stopped, he would have tripped over his own feet trying to get back in position
re: Can someone explain what this EO signed about fixing your own car?
Posted by OldManRiver on 6/30/26 at 11:15 am to FLTech
It's not even an EO, its a "Presidential Memo". Basically a press release where DJT is saying "This would be a good thing for consumers, so I think it should happen" but there isn't any action toward making it happen
quote:
The memorandum, titled “Lowering the Cost of Living by Promoting the Freedom to Fix,” directs federal agencies to evaluate policies that may limit consumers’ ability to repair their own vehicles or choose where to have repairs performed. It does not create any new laws or immediately change what drivers can do today.
quote:
At this time, the memorandum does not change existing repair laws or require automakers to provide additional access. Any significant changes would likely require further regulatory action or legislation

Simply stop the clock when you deem time is being wasted on non playing issues
That’s what NCAA soccer does. Each half starts at 45 and counts down, when clock hits 0 it’s over. The ref signals to a clock operator during each half to pause for injuries, goal celebrations, VAR, etc
It’s the only level of soccer I’ve ever seen do that

I think like 7 more things still have to happen
South Korea or Sweden/Japan have to qualify as 3rd place teams
If those 2 groups don't send a 3rd, the 1/320 scenario hits

US really gonna wind up with Senegal after all this
re: BBC has a bracket that updates after every match. You can see future paths to the finals.

The South Africa win was actually big last night. Had SK won or there was a draw, Group A would have 2 teams on 2 points or less and thus wouldn't be sending a 3rd place team, which is one of the triggers for the 1/320 scenario to happen
Now, SK is a 95%+ favorite to be a 3rd place team

Why would the US, as a host, have to play the best 3rd place team?
We don't, we play one of the "8 best" third place teams but according a set of pre-determined criteria
Right now it's 99% that we play the Group B team, Bosnia. There are some combo of other results that could us the Group I or Group J teams
It doesn't really matter if Bosnia is the #1 ranked 3rd place team or the 8th, just that they are in Group B

My experience with spray in bed liner is that it’s pretty resilient and wouldn’t just get ripped open with a simple box cutter
That’s why I was asking if this stuff dried “softer” than a typical truck bed product

I have no experience in this area, so maybe a dumb question, but how does a substance that sprays on and dries over concrete become a “lining” that can be cut with a razor blade? Does it dry and turn into a rubber like substance?

Pretty wild how red cards tilted that group
Bosnia was only down 1-0 until the 80th, then wound up losing 4-1
Canada was up 2-0 late first half, eventually with the 2 cards it wound up 6-0
I know today could have gone differently if the GD wasn't as lopsided, but it's possible without the cards Bosnia would be 2nd in the group and Canada 3rd
