They belong in museums and historical parks as the Confederacy and CWar are part of our history.

Personally, though I am a native white Southerner, I view Confederate leaders as traitors to the USA.

I am cool with taking them down, just not for the reason given.

Those dudes were traitors.

That’s not true in a legal, or historical sense.

Not an issue. The whole angry mob deal pissed me off more than anything. The statue doesn't mean people worship the person. It's a simple reminder of a historical person/event.

I honestly doubt anyone drove by them thinking, "hell yeah frick (insert minority group here", nor do I think anyone ever drove by thinking "man, everyone hates me. This statue is proof and its removal will make my life better."

Exactly. It says that no matter how baseless your claim is, if you throw a big enough fit and hitch your wagon to the liberal side you will get your way.

0 fricks given, but if they are to be removed they need to go to private museums and out of the reach of the people who vote for a living.

I speak as someone, maybe the only one on this forum, who actually knew a Civil War veteran, William Robert Turner (1845-1948) my great grandfather. He died when I was ten years old. I have related a few stories from him from time to time in the past. Among the most honorable men I have ever known. He harbored no resentment for the yanks. He never owned a slave, nor had any desire to do so. I never heard him utter a word of dislike or hostility toward blacks.

The monuments themselves are of little importance. Even in my time, nobody ever talked about them. They were just there - like the mountains, trees, and streams. And until a couple of years ago, I never heard of anyone who was 'offended' by them.

I summarily dismiss anyone, who in this time of manufactured rancor, claims to be 'offended' by them now.

If they had never been put up, my life would be totally unaffected, and they would not be missed.

What I object to is the submission to nonsensical demands from a demented political movement who has only one thing in their tiny brains - resist Donald Trump and cause havoc anyway possible. I mightily reject the actions of removing an historical object just because some insane idiots are pretending to have a cow.

If you think the removal of the statues was anything other than a cheap stunt, then you are lying to yourself. You lie to everyone else so it doesn't surprise me that you lie to yourself. You must need some sort of justification for your worthless existence.

This stunt was nothing more than some sort of 'virtue signaling' and the sad thing is that it is further hobbling black youth with learned ignorance and hostility. Just another roadblock in their natural desire to better themselves. You have place so many obstacles in the path of black achievement that I am amazed that so many of them are able to escape the plantation your ilk has constructed around them.

It is the insane idiocy of 'removing confederate statues' that gives other insane progressives to smash the memorial of medal of honor winners and deface other public edifices.

You are a sick person, driven by evil ideology, willfully ignorant, and without honor.

The main one we have in Gadsden,AL is of Emma Sampson,a young girl that led General Forrest to a crossing of Black Creek, which helped him elude his enemy.

It's part of this City's History.

It will never be removed.

OK - now you've done it - Poor Emma will be portrayed as an evil slave master and has caused black children to quiver in their fear for over a hundred and fifty years.

Got to take that down or blacks will never get a peaceful night's sleep.

This is not about the past, it’s about who we are as a people, now.

Otherwise, why bother? Why fight battles against people who died more than a century ago?

Critics may have a problem with the dead, but their bigger grief is with us. They don’t like us, or our values.

It’s always said that science fiction is never about the future, it’s a way of exploring current events through a different lense.

So this battle, theses statues, it’s not about the past.

Bravo.

Theyre not but Lee was one of the greatest generals to have ever lived. If he had led the north the war would have ended way sooner. If it werent for out of towners stirring up shite no one would have cared about the statue. frick it, it will always be called Lees circle no matter what. Ask a cabbie to take you to lees circle bet he wont say wheres that?

They are memorials of a significant part of our country's history and also represent the sacrifice of brave American soldiers (by law, they are considered US military veterans).

Their removal is the sign of weakmindedness.

Statue removal was done strictly as an attempt for one individual to promote and further a political career

Had it been put to a vote by "The People" they'd still be standing
