They were erected as veterans started to die off in great numbers, and as communities had the money to erect them.

If we are going to start defacing and removing everything that offends someone, I have a long list of monuments, street signs, school names, etc. that I would like to add to the list. I do not believe that so many people are as offended as they claim to be, as much as they like to show those that treasure Confederate history that they have the power to take that from us. They will take one too many one day.

The removal of them is a silly political stunt by shitheads like Mitch Landrieu who are either trying to appease his black mistress/baby momma, or score political points with the SJWs. It's a non-issue and always has been one until frick Face in New Orleans made it a national issue.
