The people expressing these ideas probably don't think of themselves as traitors to this country, many of whom, most certainly, have served her selflessly and even shed their blood in doing so. Traitor is a strong term for you to throw around so blithely.
quote:They had to jump through hoops and take oaths and shite.
BTW, if the men who fought toe to toe against the CSA armies for the four bloodiest years in the Republic's history didn't readily brand them traitors and welcomed them back into the Union-why do you call them that?
The people who made them do this saw them as traitors. They were just forgiven for being traitors
If someone steals, they are a thief. If I forgive them and make them take an oath to stop that shite, it doesn't mean they never stole.

No, "utter nonsense" is believing that history can actually be "erased".
Tell that to the Chinese, they do not remember who they were.

Anyone firing on our flag deserves the full might and fury of the UNITED STATES combined forces. If you don't believe that, GTFO.
You might be more comfortable, north of the Mason Dixon line.

All the colonists who took up arms against the British were "traitors" too.
Villains and heros are often times decide simply by winning and losing.

Link?
Just because Americans are ignorant of Chinese history, doesn't mean the Chinese are.

What've you got against Old Glory?

Wrong, stop trying to erase history.
Anyone who doesn’t stand for the anthem should be considered a traitor
But actually shooting at the flag should be considered honorable and celebrated?
frick the hypocrits.

The difference between an uprising, and a revolution is outcome.
Colonists won, do it was a revolution.
But should the Brits see them as traitors? Sounds fair.

No they don't. They represent continuing oppression against blacks in the post-Reconstruction South.
A monument to the Battle of Liberty Place?
Give me a fricking break.

If the plan is to get rid of all symbols representative of the support of the institition of slavery, DC needs to be razed to the ground.
Also, slavery existed under the Stars and Stripes for far longer than under the Stars and Bars. In fact, slavery existed in the USA AFTER the Civil War (until the ratification of the 13th Amendment).

That doesn't even make any sense. Just because the laborers who built something weren't free, doesn't mean what they built celebrates their bondage. To the contrary, it shows that those men weren't just slaves, they were craftsmen who happened to be enslaved. That these buildings still stand today is a monument to their skill and ability.

Washington - slaveowner
Jefferson - slaveowner
Madison - slaveowner
Capitol - passed many laws and compromises in support of slavery
If we are being honest...

Lee represents oppression?
Lee fought to keep his wife's slaves. If he had simply sat out the war, Beauregard would've lost it forthwith. The guy happened to be wandering around in just the right place at the first Bull Run, after that Beauregard proved to be a rather unspectacular leader - at best.

None of those men fought specifically to continue slavery.

Due to the political power of the Southern states. Once Lincoln was elected, these states saw that they no longer had the political power to continue slavery, and thus exited the Union so they they could continue to have slaves, and before the Congress of the United States could abolish it.

We’d be better off erasing the lower 9th and all of pigeon town. Can we do that instead?

Their Great Leap Forward was more, drastic.
Same principle though, and now they are a shell of who they were.
That’s the thing about your kind of progress.
It’s not progress.

The monuments were not erectedmerely to remember history. Just read the inscription on the original plaque at Lee Circle.
