The Declaration of Independence says they are not.

As long as that POS statue of that POS cocksucker Sherman remains in Central Park, then we should be allowed to keep our monuments in tact and unmolested down here.

Excellent point.

This board, either seriously, or tongue in cheek, raises the issue of particular areas of the country separating from the rest of the states. Many of the reasons given for doing so and the emotions expressed strangely mirror ante-bellum America.

The people expressing these ideas probably don't think of themselves as traitors to this country, many of whom, most certainly, have served her selflessly and even shed their blood in doing so. Traitor is a strong term for you to throw around so blithely.

BTW, if the men who fought toe to toe against the CSA armies for the four bloodiest years in the Republic's history didn't readily brand them traitors and welcomed them back into the Union-why do you call them that?

Confederate monuments are totally useless to me. But I strongly oppose using political correctness to determine what can exist and what cannot exist.

Then you agree that the founders of this country were also traitors but that was okay?

On several bloodlines for me, and one of my ancestors’ statue is in danger here in Texas.

What I object to is the submission to nonsensical demands from a demented political movement who has only one thing in their tiny brains - resist Donald Trump ....
Someone will need to explain the link betweem Trump and the removal of Confederate statues ... a movement that has been around for decades.

Like most people,,, I imagine....

my stance is this.

Do what ever the frick you want to the statues
..

ON YOUR OWN frickING TIME AND MONEY. PERIOD.

Do not use city officials, do not use my tax dollars.

Other than that, make love to the statue or destroy it. Nobody fricking cares about your fake outrage.

Stop wasting REAL AMERICAN'S money. (you know, the earners, not the takers.)

Exactly. If the statement is that anything that happened before 1865 didn’t happen, that’s ignorant and absurd. If the statement is that none of that is important enough to be remembered, that’s ignorant and absurd. If the statement is that those memorialized are entirely evil, that’s ignorant and absurd.

Ignoring, erasing, and rewriting history won’t be beneficial.

I know they’re not a top ten issue for the vast majority of people, but how high up would you put them?

I dgaf about statues, but i do have two big issues with this particular narrative; 1) the left's dishonesty about it. You think people care because we are racists. We want the statues to stand as a symbol of the fight for white supremacy. The truth is this has zero to do with that, which brings me to number two. 2) People dont want mob rule on ANY issue. Mob rule, ironically, was one of the most regrettable characteristics of the old south. The statue issue, as mentioned by other posters, was demagogued by a small minority of sky screamers and orchestrated by professional activists until some rube mayor caved on the matter. Now we are already seeing calls for founders statues to be removed.

It's disgusting, but typical of a modern left that refuses to control its fringes.
