Riverboat captains?
It is Mississippi River Pilots.
They make mid six figures and you have to be selected and meet certain certification requirements, but almost all selected are family members. It is a sweet government gig if they let you in, but they would probably take someone’s nephew that is 25 years old over an old fart that 50 years old and know the river backwards and forwards but has no connection to someone in the River Pilot’s Association.

I really wouldn't blame the auto companies for closing up shop and just moving everything to Mexico. Dealing with these unions just isn't worth it.

For what they're making, most of us would dump our white collar jobs and "scab".
Union leadership is just greedy. They have a lot of rich payrolls to meet.

Agreed. They need to receive the same treatment that Reagan gave the Air Traffic Controllers when they went on strike in '81. Each one needs their a$$ kick to the curb ... Reagan did it and didn't bat an eye doing so.

River pilots
Trip pilots shoving large tows downstream ( 35-40 loads ) are getting 1400 to 1600 a day. Good money

Much like phones, why do we need new models every year? And then, if we’re concerned about the planet, where are all of these vehicles and phones, and tech going when they’re no longer of use?

Below is from Fox2 Detroit Article
quote:
What is the UAW asking for?
The UAW is seeking a new deal for the first time since 2019 and is asking for a 46% wage increase, a 32-hour workweek, and more for members.
Eliminate tiered wage system
UAW employees earn about $28/hour. Those hired after 2007 are in the second tier – and earn about $16 to $19 per hour. This would follow a precedent set by UPS, which tiers among drivers earlier this year. Wage increases The UAW wants double-digit pay raises for its members. The UAW cites the 40% raise for CEOs over the past four years and said members are worth the same and more.
Restore Cost-of-Living Adjustment (COLA)
Cost of Living Adjustments (COLA) was ended in 2009 as a result of the recession and bankruptcies by Chrysler (now Stellantis) and General Motors. COLA was first implemented in the 1970s when inflation was growing and the UAW wants it back.

Good thought, but I think that is illegal in Mich
I guaranteed myself this was the case but then I remembered there was no law requiring cars be made in Michigan. Funny that

He’s probably talking about fully loaded cost. Salary+bonus+benefits+etc
Last I heard new hires make like mid $20 hourly wage, no pension and reduced benefits when compared to workers with +20 years service, they want a similar contract that autoworkers had prior to the 2008/2008 Financial Meltdown and the government bailouts. Most automobile models have nearly doubled in price since 2008 but autoworkers took a pay and benefit haircut. Meanwhile fast food workers, warehouse workers, airline workers, etc. have received +20-30% pay increases in the midst of 20% inflation.
I understand why the autoworkers want to get paid now. The federal government is going to be racking up a $2 trillion deficit each year in perpetuity….the USD is going to be heading towards Weimar level debasement.

We got a simple solution here. Replace them with machines or the 12 million new citizens. How hard can assembling a car really be ?

And people say protectionism won't be inflationary

I'd rather Fotd workers get the money than Ford keep subsidizing the superwoke Ford Foundation
Posted on 9/15/23 at 8:25 pm to bhtigerfan
Ford Motor revenue for the twelve months ending June 30, 2023 was $169.819B, a 14.72% increase year-over-year.
Why not reward the people who built the cars?

Funny how management likes to forget the sacrifice that they asked the workers to take once the the profits start to build up
Then they can't afford anything.

Because they have to keep sinking money into the stupid EV business.

Sounds like they're just asking for comparable increase to CEO increase.
