In a Yugo

Thanks for the memory. Has to be Shanklin's best bit.

Some Lyrics but its best to have the tune in your head...

quote:

As those small wheels turn
Fifty miles to the gallon
And their knees on their chest
They're gonna save enough gas
For all of the rest
In a Yugo

Then one day on the interstate
They suddenly lose control
They swerve to miss a baby duck
They're squashed beneath a produce truck

But they drove with pride...

Subtle one, but he used to say "lookit" instead of "look".
May be a midwest thing as I've heard it before.

Oh, and BUMP.

Mine was quite simple. Rush had been accused of calling for riots a while, back. And he proceeded to go on a very arrogant (in a funny way) rant about how impossible it is that he called for riots. Saying that if he had called for riots there'd have been a half million people there. He knew that because the closest he had ever come to asking his listeners to take physical action was to ask them to call some politician in Washington and the call volume broke the switchboards. It was classic Rush, imo and I found it very funny.

Absolutely true. The Colorado bake sale was massive and that was at a seriousness score of "1" on a scale of "10". If Rush had said, "I need as many of you as possible to get to D.C. for January 6th and peacefully protest the results of this election and its certification. This is vital and I will be there as well", it would have dwarfed anything since "I have a dream."

So, apparently, her handlers sold the rights to Rush to use this song way before she knew who he was and she gave the revenues to Peta after she was pressed about it.

Her saying that she sold it to him to honor her father sounds like a fix up story she used to appease her fans that were upset that she allowed Rush to use it.

All this talk about music reminded me that one of my favorite musicians, Ian Moore, had one of his songs as an intro song on Rush back in the 90's.

Ian Moore - Society

FWIW, the guy put out some tremendous albums at first. First three or four are outstanding. Here's a link to a live show that really shows him at his peak in Austin.

I agree with you about Rush's following. One of the reason liberal radio programs didn't work was/is because liberals were/are so hateful and negative. Unfortunately, I think because Rush isn't here, the right is now becoming hateful and vulgar.

rush had a small clip of a teddy kennedy stump political rally speech. rush would play it from time to time trying to figure out what he was saying. he never could. made me laugh every time he played it.

There is unrest in the forest
There is trouble with the trees
For the maples want more sunlight
And the oaks ignore their pleas

The trouble with the maples
And they're quite convinced they're right
They say the oaks are just too lofty
And they grab up all the light
But the oaks can't help their feelings
If they like the way they're made
And they wonder why the maples
Can't be happy in their shade

There is trouble in the forest
And the creatures all have fled
As the maples scream "Oppression"
And the oaks just shake their heads

So the maples formed a union
And demanded equal rights
"The oaks are just too greedy
We will make them give us light"
Now there's no more oak oppression
For they passed a noble law
And the trees are all kept equal
By hatchet, axe, and saw

There are many, of course, but one of them which sticks out for me is Rush's prophetic claim that electing Obama would make racial matters in the USA worse, not better.

Nailed it.

Legit lol’d because I can hear his voice saying it.

Miss Rush. He was a big part of my childhood and into my adult years. I always wonder what he would have to say about today’s events and I believe the conservative movement has become stale without his voice.

Nooone can say ‘spatula’ in my house without my wife start chiming ‘Spatula City! Spatula city….’.

I don’t think my kids ever fully appreciated it. Lol.

I remember it, too, and Rush was surprisingly (to me at least) complimentary toward Garcia. I don't remember his exact words, but the gist of it was that Garcia's life was quintessentially American, in that he sort of carved out a niche for himself and his band that didn't really exist before, and was very successful in that niche.

Appreciate whoever bumped this.

Don't think this parody -to the tune of "The Wanderer"- has been mentioned.
The Teddy Kennedy Song complete with Boston accent.

"I get so gosh darn hammered, I don't even know their names"
