Chrissy Hynde of the Pretenders was sitting in 1st class on a flight with Rush.
She's gotten flack over the years for licensing the song "My City was Gone" to Rush for his intro music. Saw an interview where she said that she was NOT a Rush fan at all, but her dad was, and she felt like doing that was a way to honor her dad, plus she was a big believer in free speech.

This doesn't make sense since that has been his lead in music from at least day one in syndication. She probably sold right to him before he was widely known.

His James Carville impersonation was pretty funny.

Here's the interview. She took his licensing royalty money and gave it to PETA (about $100K).

Using since day one, but the licensing came later....

I have been an avid listener since day one.
I used to love his "Trumpet Fanfare" and his description of it.

From recent times, I cracked up every time he mentioned Gubna Raff Northum of Vuhginia.

Chrissie Hynde
Yes but,
quote:
In a 2017 Songfacts interview with Chrissie Hynde, she explained that she has never heard Limbaugh's show,
So, apparently, her handlers sold the rights to Rush to use this song way before she knew who he was and she gave the revenues to Peta after she was pressed about it.
Her saying that she sold it to him to honor her father sounds like a fix up story she used to appease her fans that were upset that she allowed Rush to use it.

My favorite was when Jerry Garcia died and Rush said, "Just another dead doper. And a dirt bag." And then we all found out Rush was a doper, too. And a dirt bag. And dead.
Haha first page. Gold.

Reading it again, I think Rush just used it initially and eventually had to pay licensing rights for it.

He had a long-running list of his “Top 10 favorite female names.” I’d sure love to see a grand total.
I also remember when female callers would say they were nervous being on the air, he’d say “Pretend I’m putting on calf skin gloves and massaging your back” to put them at ease.

Up until 2009, Rush could use the song all he wanted. Then the licensing rules changed in 2009, and Rush was forced to start paying for the rights to use the song. Hynde’s people were playing hardball with Rush’s people. and negotiations were going nowhere. Rush then spoke directly to Hynde, and she had no idea any of this was happening. She and Rush agreed to $100K.

His Obama impersonation cracked me up.
His impersonation of “Mr. New Castrati” really cracked me up ... “MR. LIMBAUGH, BUT, MR. LIMBAUGH”
“formerly nicotine stained fingers”
Papers rustling
His mockery and impersonation of Rachel Jeanteel (sp), that big fat bitch, from the Trayvon Martin deal....that was funny....about the “WOOP arse”
Rush was funny, no doubt.

I don’t know if it’s been mentioned, but his 2009 CPAC speech stuck with me. It was one of the most inspirational speeches for conservatism ever made.
That speech is a great testament to Rush’s intellect, and unmatched ability to speak extemporaneously. He did not write the speech, or practice it ahead of time. During the car ride from the airport to the convention center, he said he simply thought about what he wanted to say, and wrote 5 or 6 key points to cover on a business card.

I liked how he would occasionally say something, then say how the left would misconstrue it, and then they would do exactly what he said.
