his sense of humor.

When he came on and said he was wearing a black arm band for Martina Navratilova after she lost "Battle of the Sexes III" to Jimmy Connors in 1992, I knew that would be the thing I would ultimately remember him for - that sense of humor.

My first exposure was in the late 80s - he was talking about a Native American putting on "The Firewater Defense" during a criminal trial, he was still doing Caller Abortions, etc.

I remember another good one. In his very early days, Rush would play pre-recorded public service announcements during commercial breaks because he couldn’t sell all his air time to advertisers yet. One time, he played a legit PSA about how young women were prone to suicide because of teasing, etc. In the ad, she ends up finding her dad’s pistol and shoots herself. Rush altered the PSA to add a second gunshot which made no sense if anyone actually paid attention.

He also talked about taking a limo from New Orleans to the northshore with members of the Brennan family to see their farm. He said that the simple people in the area were all gawking at the big fancy limo. I got over that though.

Lastly, I remember when he got a last minute invitation to ride in Bacchus. He was on one of the normal floats and looked like he was having a great time.

Weemsco Tuna - now there's even more delicious dolphin taste for you to love."

This what I was thinking of too. "The Tuna doesn't taste as good as it used to."

Weemsco is chock full of dolphin!

ETA:

Bobby: The tuna doesn’t taste as good as it used to.

Narrator: Luckily, not every company shamelessly bends over and drops their pants for each whiny special interest group that comes along and complains about something. When animal rights activists pressured Weemsco into eliminating the dolphin in our tuna, we politely said ‘pfft. Get a life!’ Weemsco Tuna has the great dolphin flavor you grew up with. In fact, it’s chock full of dolphin because now there’s more for us to use. Weemsco Tuna tastes great because it’s a secret blend of tuna, dolphin, shark, medical waste, and dead sea turtles who choked on deflated helium balloons.

Bobby: The tuna doesn’t taste as good as it used to.

Mother: But this is Weemsco Tuna, honey. Try it!

Bobby: Mmmmmm!

Probably when he accused Michael J Fox of faking his Parkinson’s symptoms then imitate and make fun of him shaking while giving an interview. Real peach of a guy.

That is not what happened. He didn't accuse Fox of faking. He accused him of deliberately going off his meds for a time in order for the symptoms to be exaggerated.

Was it in poor taste? Yep, but so what? Rush inspired millions to be the best they can be. He raised tens of millions for legit charities. He gave a voice to people who today are losing their voice because of their political beliefs.

You didn't like the guy? Oh well. Go to DU then. I'm sure they're living it up and will welcome your input.

The funniest memory for me is the caller that impersonate Mike Tyson around the time of his rape conviction. Rush would interview fake Mike and it was comedy gold.

Rush did his own funny impersonation of Jesse Jackson saying "Let me AXE you a question..."

Rush's TV Show...

He came out one night with his jacket covered in ribbons. I mean covered with ALL the ribbons.

He explained by saying "I care more than you."

You mean when he accurately assumed that Michael J Fox wasn’t taking his medicine so as to exacerbate his symptoms for a commercial? That was a good moment.

Wait - I actually wore a "Deficit Spending Awareness Ribbon" one time, because of Rush.

Good times.

I remember a caller named Brian in the late ‘80’s who would get under Rush’s skin. He may have been the reason Rush invented caller abortions.
