I saw this script before back in the 70's and 80's. They froze rent and jacked up property taxes. The effect was that low rent, marginal apartment buildings were either abandoned or sold to the insurance companies after they "caught fire." Didn't really help the poor. It actually hurt them.

I don’t think those who voted for him are capable of two step reasoning.
For example, they are not intelligent enough to connect the minimum wage increase to the restaurant raising prices, or the landlord tax to rent being increased.
