If this story even happened and isn't just some excuse to rant about DEI.

It happened. I wish I could hit you right in the jaw for suggesting I would lie about this. There is very little difference between the school activities of these two girls and both went to the same med school. Both are attractive, normal girls. If my daughter was Hispanic, she would have gotten the interviews she wanted. You are lying to yourself because of denial if you don’t believe this.

Roughneck, read my earlier post.

FWIW, your daughter is far from normal.

Sounds like you need to do a better job raising your child bro! Mine all completely understand why a meritocracy is best.

It's amazing that you can't even respect your own child enough to take her opinion seriously.

I take her opinion seriously. I quit talking about it and told her that she still got some good interviews and will get into a great program. I just posted today that kids are being taught to just accept blatant racism. I did fail along the way somewhere. It’s hard to overcome the constant bombardment they get everyday from school, friends, entertainment, and social media. I would like to know what the percentage of white kids under 30 with a college degree would say they are proud of their heritage and race.

What I took from this OP are there are too many women becoming doctors.

Then why did you immediately dismiss her opinion as irrelevant because she was "brainwashed".

That's not taking her opinion seriously. That's thinking you know better and assuming she's too stupid to realize.

You're failing right now because she's a smart adult and you're discounting her opinion as "brainwashed".

Again, depending on the field, her friend may have gotten a boost. As presented, I am strongly suspicious your daughter applied to programs that judged her "overqualified". Just a guess, but it's an educated guess.

She’s OB/GYN. She didn’t get interviews to some elite programs on the west coast and a few in Texas that her friend got interviews to.

Friend is OB/GYN also.

When yours are in their 4th yr of med school with a Step 2 in that range, you'll have a better basis of comparison.

You have no idea what her opinion is. She got mad at me for suggesting DEI. She may think it is DEI also but just doesn’t want to go there. Doesn’t want to admit it. This is part of the brainwashing. You’re probably brainwashed too.

How is a Hispanic getting more interviews inherent evidence of DEI?

This is the same person that will claim that whites getting more job call backs is evidence of racism.

Do you?

It sounds like we're in the same boat. Only she's not my daughter

I can't imagine what it's like to yell to strangers on the internet that you respect your daughter's opinion so little that you

1. Don't know what it is.

2. Can't be assed to even ask

3. Assume she's too stupid to think for herself.

My reference of uncertainty was to the whole thing ... her, him, and the responses.

FWIW, 270 is about 99th%. 275 is 99+. No residency is turning that down based on gender or skin color.

Gotcha, my misunderstandung. Appreciate the facts you put in the thread.helps helps fill in more details and information around the process and the complexity/nuisances of it

White and Asian docs will be the most discriminated against and forced to overcome the highest barriers to get their residencies, so those will be the doctors I choose for me and my family. DEI makes me even less likely to choose a minority doctor since I know they lowered the standards for them.

What’s new?

All of my kids were greater than 4.0 gpa in high school, act greater than 33, got nothing. Their Hispanic and Indian friends with lower gpa and act scores got full ride scholarships from state schools. That was 20+ years ago.

Financially our families were all about the same. My kids and their friends openly joked about it, even to this day. They and their friends know it’s not right, wasn’t then, isn’t now, yet here we are.

They may label it DEI today but it’s been going on for nearly two generations now.

Just because she is smarter on paper doesn’t mean she is a better interview. My wife (no pics) was top of her med class but is such a book worm she is a terrible interview and did a terrible job promoting herself (thanks MIL). She then applied to a handful of tough programs where she competed with other top level med students for 8-10 spots where 300+ apply.

I think you’re making a big deal about nothing. My wife ended up at a great residency program where two “failed” and had to drop because they were shite Drs. Not sure their DEI status. She’s had a few top tier job options after finishing her fellowship.
