She’s OB/GYN
So just FWIW, her friend's score is well in range for OB. A 245 will get a ton of interviews. (That's probably the source your daughter's message to you about DEI)

I'm just guessing UCSF and UCLA were the two West Coast locations? They're highly regarded .... and overrated IMO. Unless she's angling to spend a career in research, she may have dodged a bullet there.

But if she's really disappointed, she should sit down with the most respected, renowned member(s) of her own OB/Gyn division, and get him/her to place a call or two to those programs. At least to get her a sense as to why she was turned down.

It's been a while, and your daughter will be all over this, but Brigham&Women's, Northwestern, UNC, Duke, Michigan, WashU-StLouis are excellent.

Baylor (Houston), and UT Southwestern (Dallas) are excellent clinical programs in Tx.

Your daughter is a white female, the very vote that kept Trump out of the White House. The vast majority of white women are why this country is the way it is.

Oh FFS!
The vast majority? Really? WTF makes you think any individual WF falls into your stereotypes.

As to the OP, this does not come off as a DEI issue folks!

There will not be more than a handful of of applicants in her field with her scores this year. It's analogous to colleges turning down a perfect 1600 SAT score based on DEI. If she was actually DEI excluded, no caucasian person, will get a residency slot this year.

I cannot say this enough, but if (as described) she got turned down, it was because programs thought she was overqualified, not because she was white.

Considering white folks general distrust of hospitals and doctors, that Hispanic girl will influence the health and lives of more people than your daughter, so chill!!!

What I took from this OP are there are too many women becoming doctors.

Don’t worry, a bunch of them won’t be working full time within 10 years of graduating med school.

My wife (no pics) was top of her med class but is such a book worm she is a terrible interview and did a terrible job promoting herself (thanks MIL). She then applied to a handful of tough programs where she competed with other top level med students for 8-10 spots where 300+ apply.

More importantly, find any and all connections in the programs. We knew several people in the program my oldest applied for and got her connected to them. She also did an away rotation there. Her step scores were acceptable, but not awe-inspiring. The connections and away rotation almost certainly sealed the deal.

I got mad and cursed DEI but my daughter got mad at me for even suggesting that.

The other take-away is your daughter values the opinion of teachers over her parents.

People who design school curriculum know they can change the way future generations think. School indoctrination works.

WTF? Women have been getting Democrats elected, and hence their agenda, for over a hundred years.

quote:

In the 2020 election, men again divided nearly evenly (50% Trump, 48% Biden), while Biden’s advantage narrowed to 11 points among women (55% to 44%).

ELEVEN POINTS. You have to be a bloc that is black, or Jewish, to outstrip that margin. At least Latinos argue amongst themselves, of any sex.

Not as much as I am afraid of being treated by an inferior physician whose sole attribute is that they are brown.

Where do you get the basis for this concern?

Wait the all mighty academic medical community will say this is wrong speak. All that matters is not if the most gifted matriculate and earn Doctorates but that centuries of Systemic Racism is righted by enacting racist practices!

When you choose people not based upon their measurables such as class rank, test scores and evaluations but on their gender, race or sexuality…..that is what is happening in the Academic Medical World. I have worked in high level medicine for over 20 years. If the physician is younger than 40 ensure he is a white male. You know he had to work twice as hard to earn his degree that the others.

Dumber minority students get in over more qualified students.

In turn, everyone disrespects the professional they became because they only advanced because of lowering the bar.

Just wait until she's your Doctor you idiot.
