So what's this boards thoughts on why such a thing occurred if mistaken identity isn't a possibility?
Israel just wanted to pick a fight with even more nations than they were already at war with?

They wanted to finish off the Egyptian armor and seize the Golan Heights from Syria before the West forced a ceasefire short of their objectives. The Liberty was a surveillance ship and they took it out to hide the progress of the war.

According to the video and other sources, the incident occurred as a failed false flag. The sinking of USS Liberty would have been blamed on the Arabs as a justification for direct US intervention on behalf of Israel.
That's why you hear the phrase "our great sin was surviving."
The only new information to me in this video was the assertion that the event had been planned "a year in advance" and that the Liberty replaced a civilian ship doing the same mission because "it would be a bigger deal if the Arabs sunk a US Navy ship.

But if you watch the video, the guy said that the ship being the USS Liberty was chosen to have more propoganda impact and the plan had been on place for a year. The American Government knew in advance. Why would they be a part of setting this up?

Read about the incident. The notion that the entire affair was mistaken identity is laughable. Perhaps the initial encounter but not after that.
There is zero chance they didn’t figure it out when Liberty busted out a huge US flag, and the Israelis kept attacking it.

I used to do a lot of work in rural Latin American places where young Israelis backpacked through as part of their government funded gap years.
They were some of the most despised people on earth in those places because of their behavior. Refusing to pay guides, leaving trash and shite everywhere, just being spoiled entitled pricks in general.
Since I'm cajun and look kind of Jewish I'd always have to preface that I wasn't Israeli when traveling to a new village. They're disgusting.
