Stockton is a shithole.

If this isn’t buying votes I don’t know what is. It’s a miracle California has any conservatives left. I would lose my mind if my tax dollars paid for this.
Future elections: “Vote for me! I’ll increase the universal income!”

Just gonna go ahead and predict that poor white families will have to jump through hoops to get on that. Cause of that mythological white privilege.

This mindset is so fricking stupid. If you are going to continually steal from the hardworking taxpayers to help the “downtrodden”, then use the money to create jobs so that you increase the tax base and not just your voter base.
I was recently laid off for 3 months and did not even accept a single cent of the $6,000 of unemployment that I could have collected. Whatever happened to people having a little self pride and self worth? Pathetic!

Show me a family in Stockton, CA spending less than $500/month on food.

But do you think politicians in California are actually going to do it that way? They're not going to swap out the current welfare system in exchange for one that says "here's $500 for the month. Make it last." They're of course going to leave those systems in place and just redistribute wealth to give this folks $500.

Ok, I'll bite.
What is UBI done right?

It's most certainly not universal and how is this program funded? It sounds like Robin Hood is in town.

The quick and dirty (2 main points essentially, but its does get a little complicated):
-Give it to everyone, indefinitely. Everyone has to know its not going away and they can count on it so they can actually invest in other things (retirement, higher ed, real estate) , which in turn improves their quality of life and more importantly reduces the likelihood of ever needing a hand out and increases the odds of them increasing the tax base so they become essentially "net positives", even after UBI.
-It replaces every entitlement program we have, delete every single one. All that inefficiency, gone.
ETA: I wish he had said "could be" and didn't say "only" because I'm not saying for sure this would work, nobody does. Economists agree there's no way to know because it's never really been tested, it's all econ theory. But I do agree w most economists, its the best chance we have.

$150 billion in debt, that sounds just like a communist plan. Leftist are filth, the scourge of the earth!!

You just came back with something that is stupid and completely unsubstantiated and literally made up out of thin air
If you think you accomplished something then congrats

This will not end well for that city

There is an estimated 5-6 million jobs available for skilled labor. Take that money and train these people for those jobs instead. This continual catering to those that don’t care to improve themselves is such a joke.
What happens when the hard working, industrious people decide that they can work the current system better than those abusing it now and quit their jobs?

Only answer, huh? What would an Econ term paper with this plan in mind have yielded?
- reduce illegal immigration extensively
- deport a more significant quantity of illegal aliens
- reduce "unskilled labor" legal immigration
The above actions would drive up wages, any economist knows that. Also would open up employment opportunities.
SIMULTANEOUSLY with the above...
- reduce the benefits of the welfare state
I know, and you know, that this would greatly diminish the problems of the welfare state, as the "Americans won't do those jobs" excuse gets less and less true, because being hungry WILL actually cause people to fill the void left by the above.
