It will never be enough. Next year they will be wanting $1,000 a month. I bet the majority of the money given will go to bad habits.

The program would pay $500 a month to low-income residents.

I personally don't care how they spend it. I'd much rather see welfare recipients given cash instead of the bloated programs we have. They can spend it however they choose.

I edited my post. I read his again and I agree with you, its not the ONLY solution. But I do think it's our best chance.

But there's no way anyone anywhere, ESPECIALLY Stockton CA, that would think $500 / month could work.

$5,000 / month in a low cost of living area such as NOLA or BR would be a minimum.

No. I'm not supporting this move, and I agree $500 is nowhere near enough. I was more speaking in theory, nationwide, and a substantially bigger amount.

the only answer to our welfare state.

The only answer is to change it from what it is now to a short term stop gap. Like you can get on it for a period of 5 years over your life time. Once that is all used up you either get a job or starve.

Go to work. Be productive. Take care of your family, especially any children you have. Done expect others to do things for you because you are lazy. And yes they are lazy. If they hadn't been lazy they could have either finished high school, learned a trade or gone to college.

Why is it my (or the "governments") responsibility to take care of people? GET A frickING JOB.

Why are these conversations always about money? Those on welfare and food stamps should be made to get their allotted food at a public food bank where they give you red beans and rice. They should be living in government housing, and never see a penny of actual money. They should be drug tested and be required to do community service. If you are to lazy or incompetent to not be poor, then you are not competent enough to manage free money.

Im good with that but it should not be available forever. A set time allowed.

Some people would be ok with eating rice and beans if they didnt have to go to work. If America wants to return to its one greatness then its citizens need to be productive.

UBI done in the right way is the only answer to our welfare state. But you'll have to see and accept people starving to death and dying in the streets from starvation. I'm completely for it.

If you think cries about income inequality now are bad, imagine the anger and discontent that will build among the 30 or so percent who receive a UBI from the other 70 or so percent.
