The briefing argues that Google, Facebook, YouTube and Twitter are caught between two incompatible positions, the “unmediated marketplace of ideas” vs. “well-ordered spaces for safety and civility.” The first is described as a product of the “American tradition” which “prioritizes free speech for democracy, not civility.” The second is described as a product of the “European tradition,” which “favors dignity over liberty and civility over freedom.” The briefing claims that all tech platforms are now moving toward the European tradition.

Why would they follow the European traditions when it’s been the American traditions that spawned their birth and growth?

The briefing sums up the reasons for big tech’s “shift towards censorship,” including the need to respond to regulatory demands and “expand globally,” to “monetize content through its organization,” and to “protect advertisers from controversial content, [and] increase revenues.”

Because we are too stupid to comprehend and properly analyze and too fragile to experience controversial views. Remember big brother knows better than you for your own well being.

If you don't like it, start your own all encompassing behemoth internet platform.

Economic barriers are real things as the established companies can crush start ups... this is why anti - trust laws are in place.

The perfect example is GAB... the host company for their platform has threatened to pull their service because they deemed mainstream conservative ideas as dangerous to society.

and people still don't realize why companies like Google, Facebook, Twitter, etc. were PROMOTING the net neutrality bill. It was going to grant them even more power for this shite.

I hope everyone wakes up soon.

but if that memo is real Google is getting Ma Belled.
even if it were to get broken up into 5 companies it wouldn’t matter if they continue to use the same algorithms/tactics to silence conservatives.

Google is free to sensor WTF it wishes to, if you have an issue with it use a different search engine, the shareholders will demand change soon enough if revenue drop

1- They are not just a search engine
2- They go deep into your life in ways that you don't know. It's way more than a search engine.

3- They are using all of their tools to effect people's lives and push them into a direction they WANT them to go.

4- Because their now desired market are communist markets, they have stated in this memo that they are moving away from "American Free Speech traditions"

We should get Chicken to build it.

Instead of DuckDuckGo it would be CluckCluckGeaux.

Well yeah.

The former position is the one of freedom. The latter is the one of immoral tyrants.

That's cause "civility" is a fricking completely undefined word that is almost universally used as a proxy for, "I wish those people I don't agree with would stop disagreeing with me".

quote:

Well. At least the left is openly admitting they hate freedom now.

Then explain it to me instead of acting like a moron. Explain to me how Google searching service is subject to antitrust laws. And also show me how it is that customers are paying for the service. Don't be shy
