If you commit serious crimes in other countries, such as rape, murder, sex trafficking, or crimes against our government you can and may be charged in USA .

A Colorado dentist was convicted in the US after murdering his wife on an African safari. But seems like he was convicted for accessory, obstruction, and insurance fraud trying to claim her life insurance, not for the actual murder. Point being, they can probably tie in a US based crime to prosecute if they want even though they don’t have original jurisdiction for the main crime.

You have to pay the IRS for any money you earn overseas. So you are at least under IRS jurisdiction.

I think jurisdiction in the case of birthright citizenship is more than just whether or not you can be arrested and charged by the US government.

I sure hope you're not trying to tie this to the 14th amendment. That might work on people who are easily distracted but I would bet that most people who are used to your schtick won't fall for it

I'm sorry, but you're still not allowed to have private time with random kids when you're outside of the US.

Not too surprised you used this as an example

A U.S. federal court found the North Korean government liable for Otto Warmbier's alleged torture and death, in a default judgment in favor of Warmbier's parents after North Korea did not contest the case.

He was returned to the US. Why would Korea do that? If they had jurisdiction over him? I'm certain tons of Korean prisoners die in prison. He should have been no exception. Ya know, them having jurisdiction and all

There's an old public service commercial that can still be found on YouTube ...... "When you're busted for drugs over there, you're in for the hassle of your life."

It should be dragged back out and shown every day.

There are very few federal laws that cover murder. They usually relate to federal elected officials, federal judges, and the sort.

perspectives based on living 20 years in. the Middle East far east

The country you are in has just as many laws as US, and have a few unique that you should know about.

Do not count on the Local US embassy staff to come running to help

You will pay US income taxes during the period you are out of US. The rules are like no other. Having a knowledgable accountant is critical.

If you get stopped a complete lack of local language is preferable to fluency

Carry no bullits to Mexico. One 22 is worth a year in jail.

Lots. of local rules for taking pictures may exist, do to military, slum, female, traffic accident etc. I spent a couple hours in a jail in Kuwait for this one

Always buy the additional car insurance in a foreign company. Otherwise you may forbidden to leave till assessments are made and paid for an accident.

I have successfully used my Texas drivers license as a world wide acceptable drivers document. Every body knows texas right?

Depends on what you mean? You are subject to the rules of where you are at. But let's say you don't pay your taxes or something like that or some other crime, like terrorism, the US will charge you and come after you where ever you are, up to having you detained and deported back to the US to faces charges.

You are subject to the laws of the country you are in. Always. Unless you are a diplomat, in which case you get diplomatic immunity.

Now, the US has strong influence in many countries and can get you out of a jam, but you are exempt from laws of another nation just because you are American.

That said, if you are the right type of person, you will get government help. If you are not of the right type, you will get jack shite.
