I've two sons. The oldest was married at the courthouse. The younger was married here on the back part of the property. All I had to do was to keep it mowed and move some big foundation sandstone into position for seating. He and his bride took care of everything else. My out of pocket was $0.
I'm truly sorry it's costing you so much.
My wife had a full replacement of one hip. Because of dizziness caused by low blood pressure, she stayed three nights in the hospital, but when she finally came home there was no holding her back. She took no pain meds and was going up and down stairs (slowly with the handrail) within hours of getting home. The doc said the only PT she needed was to keep walking so she did laps in the house all day. Someone was sent to check on her progress after a week or so and said to keep it up.
It's now been three years and she has zero problems. She had a cyst or something that showed up on the scans and no one wanted to touch it until we we were referred to this one doc. He said he'd seen worse and didn't hesitate. He and his practice did an incredible job.
I always have to move the handle to the right side. My left is so dumb that if I brushed my teeth with my left hand I'd need to hold the brush stationary and move my head.

re: Snake ID

I walk my dogs twice a day along a field edge with low overhanging limbs. One time when I got home and took off my hat, I found a little 10" green snake had decided to catch a ride. Taught me to look up in addition to looking down.
What do you call a boom-a-rang that won't come back to you?

A stick.
It's been a long time, but when our first child came along we tried both parents working. My wife was a bank employee and didn't make a lot of money so it wasn't long before we realized that we were paying someone else to instill their values on our kid. We decided the best option for us was for her to quit and stay home. It wasn't easy for a few years, but we sacrificed and made it. When our second kid came along and hit 3, my wife went back to college dragging along both boys to class. The professors were skeptical and questioned her, but she told them they wouldn't be a distraction. She set them up in the back of the room where they quietly worked on their own lessons she had prepared for them. My wife graduated, worked 20 years as the music teacher in the local district, picked up her masters along the way, and retired at 62. Both boys have turned out as they were raised and couldn't be more proud of them. My point in all of this is had we allowed someone else to raise our kids, the boys may have learned values other than ours. It was hard on one income, but we prevailed. Long term financially it was far better for us as her degree paid off many times, and that wasn't even a consideration going into her quitting. Our solution isn't for everyone, but it was absolutely the right one for us.
I wonder this all the time. This past spring my friend and I metal detected a remote woods in SE Ohio that had once held a home. The only visible sign were the daffodils growing. My friend found a 1828 silver 1/4 franc. We would love to know the story of that coin.
Not only have I pondered it, I've thought a an interesting book might be from the perspective of the tree. From seed to death, a couple of hundred years of history. Maybe its survival of insects, critters, weather, early people, settlers, a town, etc until it's death.

re: Should you use FedEx or UPS?

That video demonstrates exactly why I stopped purchasing from Chewy. Back to back deliveries dumped into the middle of the driveway was enough for me. Chewy did refund the purchase cost and included a coupon for the next purchase but after the second time I was done. I don't know anyone here in SE Ohio that's satisfied with FedEx service.

re: Found squirrel poop in attic.

This is gonna ramble but it has some good info ......I had a problem with flying squirrels. It was my own fault in that I ignored them for too long and they established themselves in the attic and a couple of those useless storage closets under the steep roof. No exterminator would guarantee getting them out and keeping them out so I took it as a personal challenge.
The first thing I did was throw out everything stored in the under the eaves closets. They were nesting in that trash and leaving waste everywhere. I bought some trail cams and attached them to 5 gallon buckets. I set the buckets at various places inside and outside to see how bad my problem was and to determine where they entered and exited the house. Placing the cameras on buckets allowed me to reposition them in seconds and was really helpful to help me determine the best places to set traps. I learned they spent huge amounts of time in the crawl space under the house. I set glue traps (hated them but hated the squirrels more) and live traps in the attic and the crawl space and checked them first thing every morning. The glue traps caught a lot of them and were really easy to use. I learned the best way to catch them with the live traps was to put a bird seed block into the trap and then leave it open. The squirrels always started picking at it from outside the trap but after a few days would enter and get their fill. Once I saw that on the camera I closed the one way door and the next morning had two or three every time. I closed every hole I found they were using and every potential opening I could find with a heavy gauge 1/4" wire mesh. In my case the two big areas were attic vents and the line running from the HVAC unit and through the foundation block. To a lesser extent they entered by way of the soffit at one corner of the house. I ended up putting a wire barrier on all of the corners. I live close to woods but the cameras showed me they routinely glided from the hickory trees in my yard to the chimney and then had an entrance behind the chimney. I had all five of the hickory trees removed. It took me about two months of constant surveillance and knocking out holes one at a time but eventually I got them all. I don't know the number I had but it was easily into double digits. Let me add that the use of cameras and putting them on the buckets was the key.
Good luck. It isn't easy. They're like mice with wings.
There's an old public service commercial that can still be found on YouTube ...... "When you're busted for drugs over there, you're in for the hassle of your life."

It should be dragged back out and shown every day.

Whoever they are, she's influencing them in a way that the law doesn't matter.
I can tell you it isn't easy. I've been going through this with my wife (just turned 67). I essentially took the keys out of her hands about 2 years ago and about every 6 weeks we go through the 'I don't know why I'm not allowed to drive. Who says I can't drive? This is all your fault for me not driving. I have no independence.' Lasts about 20 minutes. At no time can she be reasoned with. I just listen and let the verbal blows roll off. An hour later all's good again.
I have no advice. You just do it because it has to be done for everyone's safety. Good Luck.
Unless the Senate goes back to requiring a two thirds majority to install federal judges we'll always have this partisan system we're into now. The two thirds majority forces bipartisanship and compromise. Simple majority does not.
Last time I had to go through this, vet came out to my truck and we did it while I cried my eyes out holding her in the back. Still had to go in to pay but took the time to get my act together.
Of all the dogs that I've gone through this with she was the hardest. We've got three dogs now and this will be the last of them. My wife has early stage dementia and it's all falling down on me.

Don't do anything. Most of us have gotten through it just fine and in my personal experience, my parents made it worse by always wanting to talk about it. That was 50 years ago and I know that it was the same 50 years earlier and 50 years earlier than that. Hearts get broken. Hearts heal. Leave her alone unless she wants something.
I read that as Maine will collect and hold the federal taxes as replacement of federal funding.
Here in SE Ohio I complain that ours is 1.1% of market value. Glad I don't live in Texas.
Whatever became of the Kamala Harris interview edit? Last I heard was the transcript was going to be turned over to someone but I never heard anything after that.
I was let go twice in the early 80's. It was tough everywhere. I had the opportunity to return to the first company about three years later and retired from it after 37 years. There were ups and downs, violent contact disputes, layoffs, restructuring, and ownership changes. It was seldom smooth sailing but who says life is easy.
