Oh dear. DB, I'll let you handle this one.

Why does this military use fully automatic weapons if rpm has no effect on the number of casualties inflicted by the weapon?

Most of us who know what we're doing don't use automatic weapons to inflict casualties.

If you think you have a point here, link for me the last time a crew-served weapon was used in a shooting in this country.

I just read this whole thread and there are truly some DUMB SOB's out there in left field. They may be so far in left field till they are out of the park.

BTW, that setup on the Ranch Rifle compared to the AR was golden.

We had some of that Det 1 money while they were trying to figure out whether we were going to roll into MARSOC or just augment them from our platoons. Still not much money compared to the other service equivalents, though.

Breaking contact or covering your team's movement, and maybe area targets if you're a gunner. Oh, and mag dumps at the end of a FAM fire are fun AF.

The only bonus of running a range and having way too many rounds left over

What about shotguns? Are those okay to use?

We'd take the MP5s to pistol qual for just that purpose.

What's sad about that point, is he is completely confirming the need for the 2nd amendment, while trying to prove it is unnecessary

I may not be able to do anything about it, but my AR-15 would damn sure help me try. I would have a legitimate chance at defending myself. Thank you Covington for explaining perfectly why we need the 2A.

You do realize that this a-hole could have killed more people with a 12 guage semi automatic shotgun loaded with buckshot than a AR15. Or how about an IED that he could have learned how to make on the internet?

I am stunned by the number of people calling to ban something that they know nothing about. I shouldn’t be...I have to constantly remind myself how dumb the average American is, then realize 50% are dumber than that

Love seeing my Huntsville baws jumping in on this one. Gives me hope the city won't turn in to Austin East.

A trauma surgeons observations of AR15 damage (versus handguns).

quote:

Compare the damage an AR-15 and a 9mm handgun can do to the human body: “One looks like a grenade went off in there,” says Peter Rhee, a trauma surgeon at the University of Arizona. “The other looks like a bad knife cut.”

quote:

The bullet from an AR-15 does an entirely different kind of violence to the human body. It’s relatively small, but it leaves the muzzle at three times the speed of a handgun bullet. It has so much energy that it can disintegrate three inches of leg bone. “It would just turn it to dust,” says Donald Jenkins, a trauma surgeon at University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. If it hits the liver, “the liver looks like a jello mold that’s been dropped on the floor.” And the exit wound can be a nasty, jagged hole the size of an orange.

quote:

These high-velocity bullets can damage flesh inches away from their path, either because they fragment or because they cause something called cavitation. When you trail your fingers through water, the water ripples and curls. When a high-velocity bullet pierces the body, human tissues ripples as well---but much more violently. The bullet from an AR-15 might miss the femoral artery in the leg, but cavitation may burst the artery anyway, causing death by blood loss. A swath of stretched and torn tissue around the wound may die. That’s why, says Rhee, a handgun wound might require only one surgery but an AR-15 bullet wound might require three to ten.

I'm all MAGA and pro 2A. But damn. I'm all for making sure people who own these weapons are capable of sound judgment.

Thankfully the 5.56 NATO is only used by the AR-15.
