An Orleans Parish grand jury is considering an investigation into Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill, according to sources.

Judge Leon Roche appointed former Orleans Parish Judge Laurie White as special prosecutor.

White was appointed as a special prosecutor because the Grand Jury is looking into the state's top prosecutor, according to sources.

Numerous witnesses have already appeared before the grand jury.

Sources tell WDSU that members of the empaneled grand jury initiated the grand jury investigation themselves, which is highly uncommon but legal.

The grand jury is expected to render a decision on the matter sometime this week.

quote:

Sources say it is connected to letters the AG sent to New Orleans city leaders. When contacted by phone, White had no comment for WDSU.

Murrill sent letters to New Orleans officials warning that their attempt to install a competing Orleans Parish clerk of court would trigger serious consequences under Louisiana’s usurper laws, warning that the actions taken by the council and mayor could result in the possible forfeiture of their positions.

The letters were sent to New Orleans City Council members, Mayor Helena Moreno, District Attorney Jason Williams, and the Honorable Calvin Johnson.

The Attorney General warned that the Council’s resolutions to appoint Judge Calvin Johnson as interim clerk and call a special election rested "on the false narrative that Act 15 created a new, vacant office."

According to Murrill, the law did not create a vacancy, but rather eliminated the criminal clerk's office position that Calvin Duncan won.

quote:

Murrill called on the council to rescind or suspend its resolutions, and urged them to " take no further action recognizing the disputed office or appointment."

New Orleans Mayor Helena Moreno issued a video statement, calling the letter a threat.

She urged Murrill to let the matter play out in court and stressed she would not be intimidated.

"I will not be intimidated or threatened by the state attorney general," Moreno said. "I won't back down."

Very bold strategy for Orleans Parish to go after the sitting state AG.

As Omar Little would say, “You come at the king, you best not miss”

Edited to add:

Those stupid frickers actually did it

Grand jury indicts Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill

quote:

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - An Orleans Parish grand jury has indicted Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill in connection with a probe into alleged threats she made to New Orleans city leaders in May, according to Orleans Criminal Court Judge Laurie White.

The counts Murrill was charged with weren’t immediately available.

The decision comes after sources told Fox 8 Tuesday evening the grand jury began investigating letters Murrill sent Mayor Helena Moreno, District Attorney Jason Williams and five city councilmembers in May.

In those letters, Murrill warned the officials their actions could trigger “serious consequences” under Louisiana law, including possible removal from office.

If indicted couldn’t Landry just pardon her? More Orleans Parish stupidity. This won’t end well for them.

Cubbies is organizing nationwide marches for this aggrieved young man, Mr. Duncan. Let’s get this man some justice and restore the sanity of having two clerks for a parish that hasn’t seen fit to introduce online filing and records.

AG getting indicted for issuing an opinion. I suppose Landry could pardon her, but this is something that SCoL should ultimately quash. (No confidence in Orleans district court or the appellate court to do so. Those judges are barely literate)

Looks like they want to prove the usurper law Murrill was insinuating

You know what they say, a grand jury could indict a ham sandwich if they wanted to.

No one can say with a straight face that this issue has been handled well by the state. I don't think many people at all would be as angry about this had the Governor decided to eliminate the position before the candidates ran a race and there was an election.

I'm not a democrat, but I personally think it's a terribly egregious move to do this right after voters had cast their ballot. It stinks.

Seems like Orleans Parish would have more important issues than this.

The grand jury in Democrat Orleans Parish took it upon themselves (allegedly) to “investigate” a particular Republican to see if said Republican committed a crime. She’s absolutely getting indicted, if for nothing else, being a Republican. And the process is ironically being overseen by Judge Leon Roche, who the Legislature spared from having his position cut at the 11th hour. Landry can just pardon her once the indictment is handed up.

This will.not end well for them.

Looks like the long awaited war between NO and the rest of the state may finally be kicking off.

The state charged the sitting sheriff with essentially not doing a good job. There are petty lawsuits everywhere.

More of the same.

That woman is a nutjob and a bitch on wheels. I hated going before her in Orleans Parish criminal court.

Orleans Parish is getting what they give. Even if it's shady, and I don't think it is, that's the world in which these OP "leaders" create their grift. THe absolute hellscape these people have turned the City into is indicative of their own shady nonsense.

Telling someone that if they break the law, they will be subjected to the penalties for breaking it is not a threat (at least not in the criminal sense).

New Orleans got a big L here, fighting it is just going to make that L even bigger. There's no win here for them.
