The CEO resigned

Another reddit longshoreman letting the mask slip:
quote:
I was hired 3 years ago and work at one of the busiest pier in NJ. I guess I was hired at ther right time cause most of ther time I have to beg for a day off.
You may make more than a just hired longshoreman, but you have to realize the outside of 8am and 5pm, it's all OT at time and a half. You get 3 meal hours a day at double time. Weekends are time and a half.
You don't pay for your full benefits, which is a $20k plan. You get 14 or 16 paid holidays (can't remember the exact number).
Two days a month you can just not show up to work... not sure where else you can get that.. You don't need any education really and driving a machine isn't rocket science.
You get a container check every years. The partial one was 9k this year, the full was 24k, before taxes.
We're the only port with a blow system. So really if I have a 16 hour day, I work a third of those hours but get paid for 16. Depending on the job you're doing, the blows are great! In the hole, you work 6 and rest for 6, but you're paid for 12. Usually a hole job is 22 hours a day, do the math. Oh and out of those 22 hours, you worked about 12 and only got regular pay for 7 hours, the rest is OT or double time.
Cruise terminals and cars are a bit different. They don't have blows. At a cruise terminal though, you can make a lot just in tips. If you hustle, easily an extra $150 in your pocket. Cars has a 15 min break in the morning and one in the afternoon. But it's not hard work either..
We're not like the west coast where you have the perform every job. Here you're either hired as a longshoreman, a lasher, a checker or a mechanic. A longshoreman will never do a lasher's job.
This is by far the easiest job I've ever had for the most money.

OK, John Barron...I get it, and I have been a little hard on my Nursing Brother....but before I leave you alone, a little more info...
If your CEO triggered you...this ought to make you vomit...in more ways than one.
The highest paid CEO in the hospital industry is a female...who was born a male....and makes 38 million a year.

I have nothing against CEOs making money. I do have a problem with CEOs who take away a $3/hrs raise claiming the hospital made no profit that year. It turns out the hospital made 15 million and the CEO gave himself a million dollar bonus. So I have a problem with lying greedy human beings.

quote:But you are extrapolating that to CEOs in other industries. Then extrapolating further that 1/3 of NY Longshoremen should make more than $350K/yr. That is simply a bridge too far.

Pretty sure he can’t give himself a bonus any time he wants.

In my younger years I started off not liking unions because I believed everyone working hard together and sharing in the success is how to best create a good work environment. Unfortunately my experience over 15 years showed this was not the reality. CEOs will do everything in their power to not share the wealth. I could never walk onto a hospital floor shaking Nurses hands then turn around and lie about the hospital profit while giving myself a 1 million dollar bonus. I don't have that in me

Holy shite do you ask people to hold your hand while trying to cross the road? I’ve given you enough information to look it up yourself.

So how about you provide those local ILA chapters' pay scales?
All of this is so fricking easy to find.

No. You didn't find where I "got that number from." I "got that number from" ...
Keep reading the thread and you’ll see where this has been addressed.

You can ask for no automation, you can ask for higher wages...but you sure as frick can't ask for both.
Was it coming either way....probably.... but they sure as frick sped it up

I would rather an overpaid workforce than an overpaid CEO. Overpaid CEO’s have only made healthcare worse for everyone.

Fire them all and hire new workers to start next week

Think about it, they don't do shite. Machines do it all, they just watch.
Automation is here.
Someone will build an Automation pot and sink them. Just watch

There is a huge gap between the supply and demand for qualified CEOs.
I can say with a 100% certainty nobody is tying up their investment money in a company with a shite CEO who is overpaying employees with investors dividends. Check your 401K, if you are making money, it is because of some “overpaid” CEO.
When you retire and start collecting that money, it’s because some overpaid CEO made you that money instead of paying forklift John your retirement. So I encourage anyone bitching about the horrible overpaid CEOs to atone for your own sins and give forklift John everything from your 401k except what you contributed. It’s a damn shame forklift John isn’t making 200.000 a year bc you are stealing his pay raise for your retirement. You can also invest your retirement in a company that doesn’t make a profit, that way forklift John can get his 200,000 a year pay, not sure you are going to be able to retire that way, but forklift John is doing pretty well and you will have a clear conscious.
