it’s not just the fact she quit it’s her bull shite explanation. “Empty stadiums” grow the frick up. If she had came out and just said “yea I felt like I was costing my team more with the way I was performing so I pulled myself out” I would’ve been more okay with that. I still wouldn’t have liked it but it’s something I could have accepted.

Her empty stadium, love of the sport stuff was her trying to think of reason she got her block. For people who saw her vault and can see her pulling back on it, we knew the 2nd part. She just didn't say that, but everyone who knows gymnastics could see it.

I think her mental issue was pressure from competing sports at a high level. That's a major factor in success. If you can't handle it anymore then what's the point? We criticize athletes all the time for "losing it".

How about maybe for her entire elite career when training for big meets she had dictator type coaches who didn't let her breathe without permission, coaches who allowed her to be abused along with many other children. These were coaches who only care what have you done for me lately. Now yes, that's fine when you're 25 and being paid, but not so great when you're 14 and coming up through the ranks.

I think although she's happier with the current Tom Forester regime, it's not how she trained her whole career and she needs a Marta type to tell her to suck it up and go. Sort of like the abused woman who can't leave it because it's all she knows and she's comfortable with it. The Karolyi's seriously have messed with these kids heads for years.

This is like saying that if Saban had a mental issue and stopped coaching halfway through the season and retired that he still wouldn’t be the GOAT? C’mon man

You think those things are comparable?
A more valid comparison would be what if Saban walked off the field at the end of the 2004 season and never coached again? Would he still be the GOAT?
Of course not, just a great coach who flamed out too early to be GOAT.

That would only be a valid comparison if he had more than twice as many championships as any other coach ever at the end of 2004.

Biles is the most decorated gymnast of all time by double the golds of anyone else.

Yes I guess if you factor in all the Championships not just the Olympics it paints a different picture. I see what you're saying.

People call her the GOAT of the sport not just the Olympics. She had an off night in qualifying (fell off the beam, etc) and her difficulty scores kept her as the #1 qualifier. She’s ridiculous and until this mental break, she’d been Tiger Woods dominant for the past 5-6 years.

She's accomplished more in her short life than anyone on this board or their whole family will ever accomplish in 10 lifetimes.

She qualified by her self to make the Olympics not as a team she has the right to do what she wants that's why they have reserves for team sports no different from track, swimming etc.

He would still be tGOAT, but it make everything he's said over his whole career about doing your job, trust the process, etc suspect AF. He could still be tGOAT and also a quitter.

I love how you keep posting this worlds graphic knowing it inflates her over Larisa when Larisa didn't compete yearly like Simone at Worlds. Post the Olympic medal count since this is the Olympics and all.

I just rewatched the team event where she withdrew. All she had to say was mentally I’m struggling and I’m not myself and I am terrified that I may seriously injure myself if I g through with it, it’s for the better of the team if I withdraw. Could avoided a lot of this BS

How does this change anything about the situation?
Hint.... it doesn't.
She quit. That's a fact.
She wasn't injured. She didn't fail. She quit.

Everyone white knighting, creating straw man arguments, and making excuses also don't change the core underlying fact.

I am so confused??????

Heard her coach at Rio in 2016 Aimee Borman on Sirius saying that Simone was so affected by the empty arenas she couldnt focus enough to complete her routines that is why she dropped out.

So how is she able to ever practice her routines if she cant complete them without a packed arena cheering her?

Making no excuses for the chick but if there's an inkling of truth to the no meds story, that's enough for me to give her a pass.

Hell, I've lived long enough to see dozens of athletes hit the wall and shite the bed without their substance of choice. Think Strawberry or Dock Ellis excelled stone clean? The list of stud athletes on something vs not could be its own thread. And an interesting one on the MSB.
