The mission is not to just conduct air ops. A carrier can certainly conduct operations while moving in open sea when they have too.

But here the mission is to conduct air ops, coordinate with Israel air ops, coordinate with us land based aircraft, defend Israel against missile attack and drone attack as they did in June,, potentially attack hezbollah or the houthis, offensive guided missile attacks, and they are still waiting on destroyers to catch up with the fleet to provide protection for the fleet and Israel from missiles.

This is a massive operation and not just a carrier protecting itself while at open sea in the pacific. There is a lot of coordination, preparation and planning going on with this operation.

It’s always better to take time to prepare for the chaos that will erupt when Iran starts unloading their missile inventories than to sail in with guns blazing. The carrier group is fully capable of both but here they certainly need time to get their ducks in a row.
