Funny you should say that.
A few weeks ago we went shopping for our daughter a car.
We were looking at a used sportage over which I was apprehensive.
For about $2000 more we were able to get her a new Nissan Kicks.
Everything is new and works.
Drives nice and is N/A.

CR-Vs seem to last forever. If you need a git r done unit I’d look at those.

If I wanted to spend more I’d look at the small Acura SUV

My daughter has a Hyundai Santa Fe. It drives and rides good, but the engine has issues. Unfortunately, they are just outside the recalls. They replaced the engine once. The new engine failed, as did the one that replaced it.

Seconded... we bought our daughter a Hyundai and it had a bad oil leak, they refused to fix it until she blows her engine, it was a known problem and recall but they wouldn't touch it until engine failure - they can't go without the vehicle so they just pour quart after quart after quart into it.

Would never buy another- not because it had problems but because they won't fuggin fix it.

Got my wife a CRV last year and it's been nice. Might be too small for the fats but it is perfect for us.

I bought a 2025 Hyundai Tuscon hybrid in December and have been extremely happy with it so far. Smooth ride, great pickup and awesome safety features.

This- it's a Lexus, so they're super reliable, and they produced/sold millions of them over the past 10-15 years, so they're reasonably priced.

I have been casually looking at RX450h's - I think I'm going to end up with something a little larger, but 30+mpg and the batteries are known to last 200,000+ miles can't be overlooked.

as others have said the Mazda CX-5 is great but they got rid of the turbo model for 2026 and the NA engine is under powered imo. Still a great vehicle but if you want zoom zoom look for a 2025 or earlier with the turbo. Or check out the CX-50 with the hybrid or turbo engine for more horsepower

Those Buick Envista's look pretty cool imo. No idea if they are worth a shite though

The top of the line Buick is actually made at the Cadillac plant, well made vehicles... The Envista's are assembled at the GM plant in South Korea...

I have a non-hybrid Rav4, excellent for all the normal day to day stuff.

Got my son a Mazda CX50 last year, only 7k miles at this point but he likes it. We went with the base model and has all the safety features.

Nissan Kicks.

Ewwww. I sat in one of those once and it was uncomfortable as hell. Cramped and I hated the interior design, but it was probably a late teens model.

Have they made them roomier and better designed? A Sportage vs a Kicks seems like apples to oranges.

Honda CR-V models equipped with the 1.5L turbocharged engine (specifically 2017–2022) are widely reported to suffer from premature head gasket failures, with issues often arising around the 90,000-mile mark and leading to costly repairs

I'm a MINI enthusiast, so I would buy a MINI Countryman All4 John Cooper Works model. Go do some rallying.
