Right. People on here always complain about lack of transparency, and deals behind closed doors in Louisiana politics, as they should. They purposely tried to fool the public about the meeting by giving it some sketchy code name so the public wouldn't attend. But its ok because its SpaceX.
Here’s the thing you people don’t get—by the time it’s on the agenda, it’s over with things like this. It’s done and happening and what’s on the agenda is approval of the final contract.
You aren’t stopping it and no amount of whining at public meetings is going to stop it.
Guess what? You aren’t entitled to approve or veto individual actions of political or administrative bodies. Don’t like it? Whine to them or vote for someone else next time, be it a directly governmental entity like the PJ or indirectly via an appointed body like the development district .

El Gaucho is upset that he will have more buggies to pick up in the Larry's parking lot in Kaplan with the added business.

data centers...again bring jobs, the new closed loop systems being installed do not use much water and the only annoying thing is the generators but those will be replaced soon enough anyways and most new data centers are being built new LNG plants in the future. Why would you not support this?
Depends on the data center. The ones w/ve had for years that essentially run the modern internet... power everyday AI applications like generating a customer service chatbot response, running mid-sized AI features, or hosting search engines Im not inclined to be against.
These ultra massive, gigawatt scale AI super campuses (like Meta's Hyperion Titan cluster they are building in LA)designed specifically to build and train frontier-level "superintelligence" or Artificial General Intelligence (AGI).....well I'm not so sure developing these are going to end up being the right call for humanity. And Im not talking about the resource allocation issues ...though those can still be problematic..Im talking about the goal of birthing an alien intelligence that is vastly more intelligent that humans.

In 15 years you won’t be complaining about the roads, bridges, and coastal infrastructure that come out of the base, to the benefit of the entire area and region.
The infrastructure is never gonna improve no matter what the carpetbaggers say

At this point the rich folks are extracting whatever they can from the taxpayer

so we should let china be ahead? in the end whether you or I think building super intelligence is smart vs being allowed to build....well thats two different issues and our opinion on if it smart doesnt matter because in the end, its a race. No different than the space race, race to a nuke, or anything else....

cool they can give a frick all they want. but without evidence they are wasting time and being typical louisiana dumbasses who complain about there never being jobs but always trying to run off the jobs that want to come here because they are ruining " A Way of Life" i.e. sitting on the porch drawing a check while duck hunting 3 days a week
and I am relaxed, just because I proved you wrong doesnt mean Im not relaxed.

Oh its a lot different than the space race or nukes or anything else. For one thing the US government TIGHTLY controlled the development of nukes and a good bit of aerospace tech. We cant even get the companies developing this tech and our government to agree on who should be in charge of enacting safeguards to prevent bad outcomes and be accountable if/when something goes wrong. What we have now is like if the Manhattan Project was a private venture and the atom bomb was being developed by private industry.
We understand every part of how a nuke functions. We understand less than 10% of how these neural networks actually do what they do. A nuke has no agency..it cant decide on it own to do anything. Not so with AI ....and thats not even getting into the more deeper aspects of whether they could be having or will have a conscious experience. I could go on and on but bottom line is this is a entirely new paradigm of technology that is akin to meeting an alien race who's goals may not align with ours...even though we made them.
As for China....Chinese researchers are well aware of the threat Superintelligence /AGI poses ...U.S. controls nearly 75% of global AI computing power, while China holds roughly 14%. Will they pump the brakes if we do? If they truly understand the threat Super intelligent AI poses? .... IDK...

bro at one point we were not sure if the nuke would set the atmosphere on fire or not
we didnt understand every thing at the time, not close
and look.....thing is...when it comes to AI, you can just shut the power off.
cut the cord and its dead, period. still has to be hard wired.
the answer to that is no
you sound like the guys before Y2K...it was end of the world this, end of the world that
guess what....im gonna party like its 1999 now and forever, not worried about AI.

Funny you should mention that..... they considered the N+N chain-reaction worrisome enough that they paused the project ran the calculations and concluded it was not a concern....but Oppenheimer took the threat seriously enough to immediately pause and consult with Arthur Compton, the head of the project's Metallurgical Laboratory. Compton later noted that if there were any real, proven risk of "drawing the final curtain on mankind," the project would have been completely shut down right then and there
There is no calculation to determine the threat AI super intelligence could pose to humanity. Leaders with AI through out percent chances of doomsday anywhere from Elons 10-20% to much higher but no one really knows.
